[edit] AIDBot (yet again)

Hi Dijxtra, When WP:AID was moved to WP:ARCAID, AIDBot broke ("Checked for running processes. 1 processes currently running, including the current process. Getting page Wikipedia:Article Improvement Drive DBG> Wikipedia:Article Improvement Drive is redirect to Wikipedia:Article Creation and Improvement Drive The bot crashed."). Could you take a look into it and just change the page it processes? --Draicone (talk) 12:54, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply. I wouldn't be too sure that just changing the page would do it actually; although I'm not sure how the bot works. If you're busy, I'm a C++/php/js developer so I could take a look at it and see what adjustments need to be made if you're happy to give me a copy of the source. The only issue is that WP:ARCAID may have a slightly different layout than WP:AID; I'm not sure how the bot would handle this. Don't worry about the bot though, I may just remove it from WP:AID/M. --Draicone (talk) 23:03, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Correct

If you are correct, inform user:Hurricane Angel about this deletion [1]! If Hurricane Angel will delete warning again, i will remove warning again in my talk page!--PIO 15:57, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

Sure thing. I see you reverted him, and if he does that again, I will revert him personaly. --Dijxtra 16:34, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
User:Asterion already warned him. If he attacks you again, report it to me again. --Dijxtra 11:09, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Islands

Hi there, it is good list you are making. The most obvious thing is that you need to sort out the references. (BTW, I'd like to see the source that counted 698 islands, 389 rocks and 78 reefs). In the lead I would explain more about the 66 islands with villages (formely inhabited islands?) Also, would add some history: how long people lived there, if some islands were deserted or re-inhabited. Other areas to think about is economy, political stuff, what role do those islands play in mainland Croatia, I suspect they have tourism indutry. Other thing is population density. I don't think you need 3 digits after the dot. One would do just fine. Also, I don't particularly like the color coded density. Just unneccessary. Also, add some pics. Island articles have bunches of them. Renata 13:21, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

Yes, that's article stuff if you will write a long passage on it. But if you just mention couple sentences - it's perfect for lead. Also, I was just giving you ideas, I dunno what can you come up with. Renata 15:07, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Tonino "Dog Lover" Picula AKA "Why The Hell I Am The Mayor?"

[edit] User PlO

Hi Dijxtra, I believe I am one of the most mature editors on Wikipedia and find it a personal attack on myself that a child like PlO wants to brand my user talk with that garbage. He was being very useless on the Josip Broz Tito discussion, at which point I told him to "shutup". As a matter of fact, if you follow his "discussions" closely, they're pretty much just a bunch instigating sarcastic comments...

I think it's very obvious why he is trying so hard to keep that warning on my page, and I'm sure you'll agree. That is after all why he went straight to a Croatian Wikipedian administrator. Anyways, he is both a sock puppet and almost rarely contributes anything useful (among hiding large edits as minor edits).

I will remove his edit once again, because I will never take him seriously, nor let him troll my personal talk page. Sound fair?--Hurricane Angel 01:42, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your list IS worthwhile despite some deletionsists' point of view

The list (List_of_cameo_appearances) you created is/was up for deletion. I want you to know there is a place for it: http://wikitistics.com . No one will be able to nominate it for deletion because it fits one simple rule: it's a statistic, list, or figure. Some people think these websites should encompass the same scope of a book- we don't. Good luck with your endeavors!Joe 03:01, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

Hm, now, see, I don't really care what happens with that list. I didn't create it, I just removed the stuff from Cameo appearance to the new page: [2]. I too don't think that's a usable list so I don't have anything against it being deleted... if you whish, feel free to move it to wikitistics.com. Thanks for the note, anyway. --Dijxtra 07:56, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Adam Ireton - Deleted

Hi Dijxtra, Can you please explain why the entry about Adam Ireton was deleted? Thanks, -- --Bobby Hurley III 09:31, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

Because Adam doesn't seem to be notable. If you wish, I can undelete the article and send it to afd... --Dijxtra 16:25, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
Hi Dijxtra, That would be great. Please undelete and send the Adam Ireton article to AFD. --Bobby Hurley III 04:38, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
Done. --Dijxtra 20:47, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

Cheers! --Bobby Hurley III 04:50, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Mystic Nation

Hi, I wasn't aware that being listed on AFD disqualifies an article from CSD. You removed the db-band tag before any objections to the speedy deletion were raised. Articles have been tagged and speedy deleted before while on AFD (for example this, this and this). Is there a policy against tagging articles for CSD while on AFD? Thanks. Molerat 19:15, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

No, there isn't. I just thought that since it is on AfD, I just might as well remove the tag. Since if the article deserves deleting, it will be deleted throught AfD. If you feel it really should be speedied, readd the tag, I won't remove it. --Dijxtra 20:10, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, I won't readd the tag as an editor has raised an objection to its speedy deletion on AFD. Molerat 20:47, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Panda vandal

Hi,

Look at the contributions of this guy. He is obsessed with pandas and writes stupid stories about pandas on many pages. Since he has permanent IP address, I suggest to give him one last warning and then to block him for one months, for a start. --Ante Perkovic 15:01, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

Done. I noticed him earlier, but forgot to warn him, thanks for reminding me. --Dijxtra 15:32, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Offensive

Would you consider "fucking Croats" written by User:Luka_Jacov at User_talk:PANONIAN highly offensive? --HolyRomanEmperor 13:56, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

Hm. Let me put it this way. I consider "fucking Croats" written at User_talk:PANONIAN highly offensive, and I have already warned one user for this: [7]. But, I don't see firm proof that Luka wrote that. --Dijxtra 14:08, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
It was not written by Luka, but by an anonymous user: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk%3APANONIAN&diff=74296090&oldid=74025392 Luka just wrote his answer to me below this comment. PANONIAN (talk) 16:13, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing

Hi. Please respond on my talk page, using :'s under your previous comment. Anyway, in regards to the {{merge}} tag, now that you have expanded the article a bit, I don't mind it too much. It would be nice to see why it is considered notable: how many students go there; more famous/important alumni; etc. . I do, however, strongly object to its title. There are probably thousands of departments and faculties in various universities with exactly the same title. See UC Berkeley College of Engineering -- the title is very specific (and that's an article about a whole group of departments, none of which have their own article). Thanks for having discussed with me before removing the tag outright! --Storkk 13:26, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

Also please note EECS --Storkk 13:27, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
For consistency in WP, I believe the University name comes before the faculty, which would make it something like University of Zagreb Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing which is horribly long. It might be best if the University has some kind of 2 or 3 letter abbreviation that it actually uses (thus, "UC Berkeley ..." for sub-colleges, but "University of California at Berkeley" for the main page), something like "SuZ Faculty ..." or "UZ", whatever the school uses. I do feel quite strongly that Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing should not point to a faculty of the University of Zagreb, even if there are no conflicts yet. Thanks for your input, --Storkk 14:12, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
You may have a point with your Google search. I'll leave the title up to your discretion. If you leave it as it is, please have a disambiguation {{For}}-type tag that points to EECS or something similar. Since this discussion doesnt pertain to the merge tags anymore (but to naming), i'll remove them now. --Storkk 14:16, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Problem

E pa pošto si se ponudio da mi pomogneš ako imam neki problem onda da te pitam jel može šta da se uradi u vezi ovog bugarskog nacionaliste koji uklanja članke iz kategorije "History of the Republic of Macedonia": http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Ohrid_Literary_School&diff=75119402&oldid=75119306 PANONIAN (talk) 17:34, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

Yeah but those are different entities, not simply histories. Plus you should know the issues relating the names of "Macedonia" and the "Republic of Macedonia". There's no region of France or region of Portugal whatsoever.   /FunkyFly.talk_  22:15, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
Right right, thats why there are no categories of European countries in Roman Empire?   /FunkyFly.talk_  22:20, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
Oh now you're just splitting hairs. Your argument does not hold.   /FunkyFly.talk_  22:27, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
Precedents? Hardly a stanadard way of adding categories.   /FunkyFly.talk_  22:38, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
I don't agree we've got any precedent too. It's completely anachronistic to categorize it as "History of the Republic of Macedonia", even as "History of Macedonia" (the region), when it in fact didn't exist back then ("Macedonia" was a different region in Thrace in the Middle Ages). Also, we don't include the University of Constantinople in "History of Turkey" just because Constantinople/Istanbul is today part of that country, right? In brief, I don't find your arguments convincing. TodorBozhinov 11:17, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Hey man, are you still interested in a second opinion? Sorry but I was offline for much of yesterday. - FrancisTyers · 12:19, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Ideally, it should be an improvement to an existing article, such as expanding a stub, citing sources, etc.. In certain instances, I will approve a new historical article if it covers a major topic that is not yet covered on Wikipedia. Those shoudl be cleared with me first. Other than those exceptions, the focus is really on improving and sourcing existing articles. Danny 14:59, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Boris is going crazy again

Hi,

Boris is out of control. He just moved Croatian War of Independence to War in the Republic of Serb Krajina.

You remember how close he was to be banned permanently? I believe it's the time to restart the proces. It's no miracle that he got banned indefinitely on serbian wiki.

Please, since you are an admin, do something about this. Thanks. --Ante Perkovic 00:12, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

P.S.

user:Marinko has even tried ti warn him, but he just deleted the warning. I see all this as pure disruption of wikipedia. This kid is not completely sane and I don't think we should baby-sit him here. --Ante Perkovic 06:29, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

I already clean out backlog. A few days ago I spent a solid hour deleting images (though that was fantastically boring and haven't touched it since), and I always nip into CAT:CSD when it's backlogged, because I think that's quite important. I'm more than happy to deal with requested moves, but it looks really complicated... -- Steel 10:32, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

I'll check that out later then. I guess I should start with the oldest request? -- Steel 11:14, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi Dijxtra,
Thanks for the invite above – is it a subst:ed template...?  I'll continue my occasional WP:RM updating and intend to start closing and actioning old WP:CfDs, but I'm also wishing to spend more of my Wikipedia time adding content to the encyclopedia. Good point!  Thanks for your reply. Yours, David (talk) 01:08, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Laughing Man on Yugoslav wars

Hi. I'm having trouble editing Yugoslav wars because of continuous disruptions from User:Laughing Man. He just reverts anything he doesn't fancy. I tried argumenting on the article's Talk page, leaving messages on his Talk page, rewriting reverted segments to try to fix whatever he may object to, but nothing seems to work. He won't say a word and just trollishly pushes his POV. I have let him have his way on minor things, but I put my foot down on listing sides of the ethnic conflict (the "mostly Serbs" part). I just hate to see bullying win. And it seems it's almost all he does on WP.

So... do you think you could help? --Hrvoje Šimić 16:21, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi, Please tell me what you think was missing from my move request. The only topic on Talk:Love, Shine a Light is a discussion of the moves, so I felt to create a redundant section title would be pointless. AlmostReadytoFly 17:22, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Afrika paprika and others...

...look what they did to Operation Storm. I was finally getting to admire how beautifully a NPOV article was being presented in-betweens of Serbian overextensions of their sufferings, demonizing of Croatia on one side and Croatian extreme patriotism, nationalism and religious zeal on the other (+neutral international community), but now the article's entirely broken, and User:Afrika paprika keeps deleting the fact tha Serbia commemorates the date to the killing and the exiled... Check out also Ivana Milicevic and the article's history when you've got free time. --HolyRomanEmperor 22:25, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

I see ChrisO already warned him. If he messes with Operation Storm once again warn him that he will be blocked if he does that again (please quote the diff so I can make sure I'm not blocking him for something you warned him before). If he does it after you warned him, I'll block him.
As for Ivana Miličević, can you sumarise the discussion? How many of them support Afrika Paprika? If he is the only one, then he's breaking the consensus, and I'll warn him, then warn him again, then block him. Now, is there a consensus around the nationality, or somebody else supports Afrika Paprika? --Dijxtra 22:42, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
How nice that you two are conspiring against me.
conspire  /kənˈspaɪər/
–verb (used without object)
to agree together, esp. secretly, to do something wrong, evil, or illegal
We are not agreeing to do something wrong, evil or illegal, esp. not secretly since we're doing it on my talk page. --Dijxtra 11:52, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
I'd say that talking about how you will report me and what actions will you take into measure on your talk page away from pages that are suited for such things are most definately conspiring. Afrika Paprika 13:19, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
And which pages are suited for such things? I think that talk page of an administrator is just about a perfect page to discuss such issues. --Dijxtra 14:13, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
Didn't know that. I see it more fitting that if you have someone to report about something you do it on the very page where it must be done...not going to a mod and making agreements what you will do and how. Afrika Paprika 15:38, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
Well, I obviously didn't watch Operation Storm and Ivana Miličević pages. And HRE wanted to report to me about what was going. Where do you go when you want to report something to an admin? On that admin's talk page. So HRE did that. Nothing conspirative there... --Dijxtra 16:11, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
You see HolyRomanEmperor cannot bear the fact I confronted him on his biased, fallacious and revisionist articles about Pagania, Zachlumia, Travunia and Dioclea that he now runs around and spies on me so he can remove me.
This is a personal attack. You can get blocked for saying things like that. --Dijxtra 11:52, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
What about his personal attacks? You don't mind those? Afrika Paprika 13:20, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
Feel free to report those to me, and I'll mind about them. --Dijxtra 14:13, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
I do not want to report it. That is the difference between him and me. I will not report him because he named me an 'Internet Troll' in heat of the discussion. Afrika Paprika 15:38, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
Fine by me. He has a right to report you. You have a right to report him. But, if you do not want to do something, don't stop others from doing that. --Dijxtra 16:11, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
The Operation Storm artcle is an article of disputable accuarcy as it claims ridiculous things: 1. That there was an 'ethnic cleansng' referring to the article which says nothing of the sort and 2. constant mention of the supposed "Krajina region" and "Krajina Serbs". The first is incorrect due to fact Serbs left because their army and their leaders told them so and this is confirmed fact...there are document to confirm it. And the second is wrong because no such region exists in Croatia nor has ever existed and every mention of "Krajina" is actually greater Serbian extremism.
"The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth" - Wikipedia:Verifiability. Therefore, it is not relevant what you think, it is relevant what you can prove with sources. What you did here was removing references, removing information which was verified. That is a severe offense. If you do that again when ChrisO's block expires, I'll block you again for removing content from Wikipedia. If some piece of information is sourced out leave it alone or you will be blocked. If some piece of information is not sourced out and you think that it is false, do not remove it but put {{fact}} right next to it. If you continue removing information from Wikipedia, you will be blocked.
Wikipedia has rules. Follow them if you want to edit Wikipedia. --Dijxtra 11:52, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
Your threats are ridiculous and do not have any effect on me. It is not relevant what I think indeed...it is relevant that the article is biased and that the very sources provided there do not support the enforced thesis. This article is anything but NPOV. Afrika Paprika 13:22, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
Those are not threaths, those are warnings. When an administrator talks like that to you, then those are called warnings. --Dijxtra 14:13, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
As for Ivana Milicevic we have a source which says she is Croatian actress and she claims it herself...she mentions nothing even close to supposed 'Bosnian' which is mind you territorial designation and we already have her birthplace up there so anyone can conlude that for themselves.
Good. So she is born in Bosnia. And she is of Croatian descent. Therefore, both "Croatian" and "Bosnian actress of Croatian descent" are verifable. In cases like that, when both pieces of information are verifable, you are supposed to abide to WP:CONSENSUS. It seems like you were the only one supporting "Croatian", and many editors supported "Bosnian actress of Croatian descent". Therefore, you are not allowed to revert. If you continue to break consensus after your block expires, you will be blocked. --Dijxtra 11:52, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
She is not "of Croatian descent" but IS CROATIAN.
And, how does the fact that she is Croatian refrain her from being of Croatian descent? --Dijxtra 14:13, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
Let me give you and example: American of Croatian descent, German of Croatian descent, etc. Don't you agree that this is very much different than actually being Croatian which she is? I would say so. I tried to be a more forthcoming and made it more neutral but they deleted it....HRE included. I would be satisfied if it stood Bosnian-born Croatian actress or something similar...but 'of Croatian descent' just isn't right. By such construct you imply that in Bosnia there lives the supposed nation of Bosnian which is not. Bosnia and Herzegovina is a state of three ethnic communities: Croats, Serbs and Bosniaks. She is a Croat. Afrika Paprika 15:41, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
Are you saying that Croats who live in Croatia are not of Croatian descent? Well, of which descent are they then if not of Croatian? --Dijxtra 16:11, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
There is not one source which refers to her as 'Bosnian actress'.
Sure there isn't: [8], [9], [10], [11], [12], [13], [14]. --Dijxtra 14:13, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
There is a source which confirms her as 'Croatian actress'. Please see your remarks above about verifiability. Also if you look at the talk page you will see that most if not all people support my view. Again your 'threats' are ridiculous. Afrika Paprika 13:23, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
I also never stated that "Bosnians do not exist" as HRE accused me of...not here though but on DragonFly page (I think). The original article said she is "American-Bosnian" actress of Croatian descent. It was not me who changed it into "American of Croatian descent", "Croatian actress" or "of Croatian descent". I was only there to point some facts but constant editing by memebers who at the end of their reply on talk page write "Allahu Akbar" and refuse to refer to facts made me took more active role there.
And, the guy who refused to refer to facts and just went around issuing takbirs is now blocked because he refused to follow Wikipedia rules. Learn from that. --Dijxtra 11:52, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
I do follow Wikipedia rules so your implying that I do not is hillarious. What I do not know so well is how to bend the rules and manipulate them like a true master that HRE is - manipulating and twisting Wikipedia rules like he does. Afrika Paprika 13:26, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
I say you don't obey the rules. ChrisO says you don't obey the rules. And, we are administrators because we know the rules. Just keep knocking your head against the wall if you wish, but I advise you to read the rules and stick to it if you wish to edit Wikipedia. --Dijxtra 14:13, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
What about HRE's constant breaking of the rules? Isn't it strange that I am breaking the rules(which I am not saying I don't) but he doesn't? If I was breaking 3RR rule so did he yet the admnistrator who blocked me says he doesn't thought the history page is clear as day. Is that how administrators work here? Taking sides? Afrika Paprika 15:45, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
Don't ask me, you are wrong for that. You don't want to report him. report him and he will be dealt with. --Dijxtra 16:11, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
I would also like to refer to mention Pagania, Zahumlje and the rest of the medieval southern Dalmatian principalities. You see HRE is pushing only one-sided articles and Serbian propaganda here. I am not saying that is his style because I've seen him being neutral in other articles but he does show tendency for fallacy and revisionism especially in articles referred here. These principalities could not be claimed as Serbian, Croatian or Zimbabwean...only as Paganian, Zachlumian, etc. Why? Because the sources are contraditicing. It would be like claiming Wendic/Polabian principalities were Polish or Czech. His constant reference and pushing of the DAI version, which mind you is based on the contraditcing article to itself in fact, is just plain wrong and he has shown no reason or will to compromise. Read his-enforced article and read my and judge for yourself which one is more NPOV. Afrika Paprika 00:18, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
I will take your remarks into consideration when you start abiding to Wikipedia rules. (BTW, yes, I know that HRE is sometimes hard to work with, but I don't have intention to help you combat him before you fix your ill behaviour) --Dijxtra 11:52, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
But you have intention to help him combat me. How interesting.
Yes, I do. I have every intention to help anybody combat people who break Wikipedia rules. You still haven't providet any evidence of him breaking any rule. He has provided such evidence for you. That's how things work. --Dijxtra 14:13, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
I didn't report him, not provided the evidence. The evidence is there for everyone to see. He is breaking the NPOV policy of wikipedia, has broke the citing and 3RR rules...yet only I am blocked and he is not. How can anyone justify his enforcment of the supposed "Serbian character" of Southern Dalmatian princiapalities when these lacked such denominations? The only which can be associated with Serbia and Croatia(for comparison) are Rascia(Serbian) and Croatian medieval state. All other in early-medieval period: Ragusan Republic, Doclea, Zachlumia, Pagania, etc. were simply Slavic princiapalities. If there weren't various imperialistic intrusions in South Slavic area we would most likely today have one unified South Slavic state....not like Yugoslavia mind you but something far more similar to Spain or Italy or Germany. As a historian I cannot allow such things to happen even if it means acting as a total idiot and breaking the rules. Afrika Paprika 15:49, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
I don't know, I'm not a historian. If he is breaking NPOV, then cite the sources that state NPOV. If he removes the sources, then contact me and I'll warn him. If he broke 3RR, report him here. --Dijxtra 16:11, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
I never asked you help...I ask that you act neutral and rebuff his ridiculous claim. Although I realize that is most futile call on my behalf because it is clear you are biased towards him and that you two know each other. I knew before that Wikipedia is ridiculous but now I know it for sure. Afrika Paprika 13:27, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
If you find Wikipedia ridicolous, then feel free to leave. --Dijxtra 14:13, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
I will not leave and I will not give up on reverting his revisions. Be sure of that. Afrika Paprika 15:50, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
I am not conspiring - you encouraged me on User_talk:Afrika paprika to freely report you to anyone I want and that you won't care. Operation Storm: 1. "Ethnic cleansing" occured; any overexension how the Croat nation, the state of Croatia and/or the wholesome government of Croatia has unitedly and generally organised ethnic cleansing of Serbs of Croatia is plain nonsence - however, ethnic cleansing of Serbs - even on a small scale - did occur, as it occured in almost every other part of Yugoslavia during the wars. 2. "Krajina" is a geo-historical region of Croatia and the "Krajina Serbs" are the Serbs that inhabit it. However, none of these is the subject - this diff of yours is. There, what you conducted is a biggo bad faith removal - a. k. a. vandalism as per Wikipedia:Vandalism. I generally agree that Pagania is a bit one-sided written - however, I can't make any progress with Afrika.
Yes I did and as you can see you reporting me will not have any effect on my zeal or ability to edit articles. As for Operation storm you have not one valid and neutral NPOV article which will confirm that the supposed "ethnic cleansing" occured. What you do have is a document from Serbian terrorists leadership which says explicitly that all paramilitary forces AND POPULATION must withdraw. So they left. If there was an "ethnic cleansing" the Serbian leadership is to blame not Croatia nor the 'Operation Storm. And second there is no such thing as "Krajina region", there never was. Show me one valid historical of such entity existing...just one. You will not find it. And what progress are you talking about? I called upon you to reach the agreement, a consensus. Panonian made a perfect comporomise and then you came again and start enforcing the one-sided version which you know openly admit. Afrika Paprika 13:32, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
Regarding Ivana Milicevic - I don't think that anyone supports him. Mainly, he kept replacing "Bosnian actress of Croatian descent" (my suggestion was "Bosnian Croat") with "Croatian actress". Even User:Ante Perkovic made a rather interesting note on his talk page regarding this, stating how he was finally proud that there were little or almost no Croat vandals and internet trolls when compared to Serbian ones - and Afrika harshly refused all his suggestions.
You think wrong. Refer to talk page and see for yourself that couple of persons already expressed sympathy and agrees with my stanpoint. Yours? No one. We have a source which explicitly states she is 'Croatian actress'. We have none stating she is 'Bosnian actress'. And Ante Perkovic's comments which have nothing to do with the facts are irrelevant, he made no suggestions...he tried to enforce invalid version just like you and bunch of other "Allahu Akbar trolls". Afrika Paprika 13:33, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
I'm sorry to troubly you now - but I hope that you can make up the differences between Afrika paprika and the rest of us (especially me). --HolyRomanEmperor 11:29, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
By your constant whining to others and reporting me for minor breach of rules that will be hard to achieve. Afrika Paprika 13:35, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
Yes, if Ante and you reached an agreement, then it must be a hell of a consensus :-) Therefore, I'm reverting to Ante's version. --Dijxtra 11:52, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
He opened a sockpuppet - User:Zrinski (almost 100% sure) as a "reinforcement" in the edit wars. --HolyRomanEmperor 11:54, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
What about your "friends" (read socketpuppets)? Laughing Man? Bunch of other undesignated IPs? All those supported YOU? As I said you are good with manipulating the rules... Afrika Paprika 13:37, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
Refer to WP:RFCU ASAP. I will post a warning on his talk page and revert him. If he does something like that again, I will block him for 24 hours. You inform me of how RFCU ended, if he is confirmed I'll indefblock him. --Dijxtra 12:00, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi! I'm slowly returning to wikipedia and I see some really good developments here :). Not only that "Purger" is blocked again, but Afrika Paprika, the only (IMHO) pro-croatian (actually, more like ksenophobic) troll here, is also blocked! I am very happy to see that "my side" is clean of trolls again :). See you! --Ante Perkovic

It was my pleasure. Although I prefer talking people out of trolling, Afrika and Purger are just hopeless and I think that ban was the only solution. --Dijxtra 07:06, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Croats

I have a question. The Croatian World Congress states that there are 4.5 million Croats outside Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina (making altogether 9,000,000 million Croats in the world. Although this fulfills the WP:CITE rule, I still think this a little unimaginable. A similiar thing with the 12,000,000/11,000,000 figure for Serbs. Is it OK to put the notice like that (because the Serbian Unity Congress has been valued as insuficient for the Serbs article - the claim of 300,000 Chicago Serbs). --HolyRomanEmperor 13:50, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

Dunno, ask at Talk:Croats and try to reach a consensus about if that link is WP:RS. I myself don't know anything about the reliability of the site... --Dijxtra 13:53, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
Ah you mean "a consensus" like you reached at Ivana Miliceic page where the source is clearly disregarded? How do you even have the nerve to call yourself upon the rules of Wikipedia when you two are blatantly breaking them as it suits you.... Afrika Paprika 12:02, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
If you think that I'm breaking rules of Wikipedia, feel free to report me anywhere. In the meantime, do something useful. List of inhabited islands of Croatia still has 6 redlinks. Feel free to make them blue. --Dijxtra 14:17, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
...Nah - it obeys WP:CITE and I don't really have arguement on that. However, this has now given free hands to the (in)famous inflations on Serbs. :)
P. S. - here's Afrika paprika as an anon. --HolyRomanEmperor 14:08, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, I warned him on his talk page and sprotected the article he vandalises. I don't want to block him so he can have his say. --Dijxtra 14:17, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
Look at the history of your talk page. He officially admitted that he ([15]) is Afrika paprika. Editing while your account is banned is not allowed - it's almost as if sockpuppetry. I think this qualifies for a block of the IP. --HolyRomanEmperor 14:18, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, I know it's obvious, but he is a ADSL user, and blocking him won't do any good. He just has to reconnect to change his IP, and then somebody else could accidentaly be autoblocked (me, for instance, since we use the same ADLS provider :-) ) as a sideeffect. --Dijxtra 14:22, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The Sad News incident

Nope. --Dijxtra 16:17, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
Any way I can influence to change that opinion? --HolyRomanEmperor 16:34, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
Hmmm... not quite. The whole thing just smells fishy and I don't know what would make me get rid of the smell :-) But, hey, you can't say you suffer because I don't belive you, can you? I really treat you as any other user. At least I give my best. --Dijxtra 16:48, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
You're right over there - that actually comes as a shock - thanks anyway! I think that time will tell you (when you get to know me better) - I've also decided to tell a little more about myself, so that no occasion of "proving" starts to get troublesome. --HolyRomanEmperor 16:56, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
Oh - and I checked out some of those islands - and made Zverinac. --HolyRomanEmperor 17:42, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ivana

I didn't realize it until I had already started to edit the article. But I don't think there is anything objectionable in my edits; it still says she is born in Bosnia and is an ethnic Croat, which seems be the major contention.--Cúchullain t/c 07:49, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Afrika paprika

Afrika paprika said "Greater Serb shit" on Talk:Pagania. My original idea was to continue the discussion after his block expires - but now I'm starting to think that that's impossible. --HolyRomanEmperor 15:10, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

Whatever. It's not impossible to talk with anybody. It's just questionable if you think it's worth it. BTW, he broke the WP:CIVIL before the block, so no sence in reporting it now. --Dijxtra 16:06, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
OK - I just see a high potential in Afrika; I think that if he could read a little of Wikipedia's policies and change a little his attitude - he could become a productive member of the society. Actually, he broke WP:CIVIL after the block. However, as it's unlikely that I am able to influence him - I ask you. --HolyRomanEmperor 17:35, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

I didn't even notice that. I think that he voted while I was saving the old version, before his vote. Nothing intentional. --HolyRomanEmperor 18:37, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] History Delete

Hi I would like to delete some posts that had my IP number showing...even if deleted in discussion the Ip is still on History section. Any way of protecting my privacy and deleting where my ip is on history.

Not big deal...i don't need to hide the ip number but others hide theirs so maybe i should too ...just thought it would be good for privacy.

Can you name a example in which somebody hid his IP?

If i give you the number can you delete it from the site?

No, things just don't work that way. If you look at the bottom of this page, you will see that Wikipedia is licenced under GNU Free Documentation License. I have changed my preferences to try out Croatian & Serbian iekav - and noticed a rather odd thingy. While it translates all buttons, it leaves my preferences in the upper-right in English. Could we do something 'bout it? --PaxEquilibrium 00:28, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Mirko Norac

Thanks for your interest in your role played with the Mirko Norac article. I was in the process of reading the Afd about it and was in the middle of leaving a reply that I thought it should be kept but edited, made neutral or etc in the case that it wasn't neutral. Right as I tried to leave my reply I saw that Adam Bishop had deleted it I think on the grounds for being bad faith. I hope you don't mind but I undeleted the article and did my best to edit it and make it neutral

Personally, I'd had no knowledge of Mirko Norac and am neutral as far as to whatever his or his followers or dejectors have to say about him. But in all due respect I hate seeing one's ideas censored. I think we should encourage others to make Wikipedia the best we can. If what I've submitted is neutral, I hope that not anyone else reverts it to an unneutral article.

Thanks again and feel free to check out my work on the public access television article where I make numerous contributions. DavidWJohnson 18:13, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: list

It's pretty good. I'd suggest you convert all those external links in the table to footnotes. Additionally, for all the external links you should fill as many parameters as you can of the {{cite web}} template. You could also have a look at User:Rune.welsh/FLC for other things I tend to look at during an FLC nom. Regards -- Rune Welsh | ταλκ 15:21, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

That's not really an issue. We have some lists with pretty large reference sections (e.g. List of vegetable oils) It is possible to use a "div" tag to reduce the size of the section to 75% or so as well. -- Rune Welsh | ταλκ 15:29, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Lijepa nasa, lijepi nasi

Glad to see you're working on fixing some bad edits on articles to do with Croats and Croatia.

Keep up the good work.

So long and GOOD LUCK.

Thanks for good wishes. --Dijxtra 08:22, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

--Dijxtra 08:22, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

Jagoda 1 22:36, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

PISE _ I TO CISTO. Pise da je Pol ime Hrvatsko i Slavensko podrjeklo a ne taljansko.Neznam zasto je tesko svatit. Korcula is know as being his home at a time, perhaps it was also where he was born. If Korcula was poulated by Croats and this is proven. If all Croats at that time were called Venetian and Italian...he must have some Croat blood. The % must be very high...for he was also called Dalmatian and used Croatian names.

Maybe he was a mixture of Croat and Italian. Many non bias sources say he was Slav Croat...why would they if untrue? The evidence is there just Croatains don't seem to care much to tell the world...shame about that.

If Columbus is listed as Spanish Italian and Portuguese so can Polo be Italian Croat right? Jagoda 1 03:36, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Well, to be frank, I don't know much about Marko Polo and I don't have any sources on him. if you have verifiable and reliable sources, add them to the article. I, unfortunately, can't help you since I don't know anything about the topic... --Dijxtra 14:11, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

You hit the nail right on the head mate. When ever some has put the Croatian view across no matter how many non Croat sources are listed the person has been targeted as a Vandel. In the end the page has only 1 minor paragraph refering to his possible Croatian origin. Try google Marco Polo Croatian ..you wll find a fair few non Croat sources saying he could have and was Croatian/Dalmatian/Slav. (Henry Yule comes to mind) If you read about Korcula and the fact it was under Venice rule at the time you will quickly find Marko Polo was almost 90% chance Croatian.

I have given up on the article and many others have to....Italian user quickly delete any proof. I don't know why they fear it. Ironic they don't do the same on Columbus page where he is listed as a few origins.

Take Care

Jagoda 1 23:05, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Polo

You're missing my point again. 1 Marco Polo born in Korcula or Venice has been deleted in the intro (was on there before), only Venice is listed now. Any Croatian change is deleted very quickly. The article is very Italian pov.

Hart is one historian........ Yule another who show proof that Marco Polo was from Dalmatian town of Sibenik and of Slav stock. Many others share this view and proof is there i just can't understand why we can't mention it or show links for it.

Like i said before if Columbus is listed as Italian or Spanish or Portugues why cant we list Polo as Croat and or Italian....in the same way.

In my view the more i read the harder it is to see how he could be Italian.

Sad when you think about it....truth is hidden

[edit] Had Enough

Thanks for the reply. Regarding the comment:

Thank you for your kind words, but I think I've had enough. I see that people here just lack a prospective. For instance, this edit comment: remove second sentence from intro: someone had to be the youngest col., and the "duke" thing appears to be of minimal importance

Excatly! I'm glad you picked up on that. That night or the next day I realized I'd wanted to point that out. That pretty much sums it up don't you think? Not important because "somebody" had to be the youngest col., and the fact that he became a duke to be of "minimal" importance? That's like an American saying that fact that John F. Kennedy being the youngest president isn't important because somebody had to be the youngest president. Or, like saying that an American receiving the presidential medal of recogination, which I think is the highest honor an American can receive, to be of minimal importance. Any children's text book with an article on these people would point out this.

So it's with extreme pity on behalf of my fellow Americans that I in-part agree with your conclusions. One, it's not so much you that was wrong but them. Two, I agree with your Croatian sentiments and think an objective article about Mirko Norac is deserving there. Three, I wouldn't delete the American article completely even though you were the creator of it. Like I said someday it could be respected, but then again it could just as easily be erased today. I would separate yourself from it and claim dishonor ship of it indefinitely but not definitely until a better time would present itself. Therefore, I think your choice to leave the original article note at the top of the discussion page was good.

Please don't become jaded, resentful, or unloving towards all things considering this learning experience. It's not simply an American fallacy but a fallacy of all mankind. All we can do is love our neighbor as ourself. Please keep me informed of your work. Your brother in Christ, DavidWJohnson 19:07, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Alto Adige / South Tyrol mess

I wonder whether you could give me your views on the ongoing problem with these articles. I'm not actually talking about contents or denominations, but the level of disruptions these are experiencing. It's not just copy and paste page moves. There are other things going on too: Personal attacks on an involved admin[16], lack of good faith and possibly sockpuppets (I find hard to believe someone's first edit would be a "vote" on a RM survey[17]). If you can, please have a look at Talk:Province of Bolzano (Bozen), Talk:Communes of South Tyrol and Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard#copy.2Bpaste_of_three_articles. I've been "asked" by one of the sides to mediate on this but I suspect foul play going on. Personally, I've no strong opinion on this and was happy to respect the small consensus that was reached last time. I'm getting this Kosovo feeling all over :( Asteriontalk 20:42, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

Just a quick question, since I can't find "demografics" section in South Tyrol article: what's that with German language? Are Austrians majority, large minority or did Austirans own the province from forever and lost it recently to Italy? What is the case here? I just ask for some insight because this is all quite new for me. --Dijxtra 20:58, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
It became part of Italy in 1918. German-speakers are majority overall. Both names are official. My comparison with Kosovo was because the increasing disruption level in the articles, not anything to do with both political situations. Asteriontalk 21:15, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
I think the disruption in the articles has stopped, no? Seriously Rarelibra was just trying to help. I can tell he is idealistic and just had no patience for the b.s. Regardless, I believe there were no more page moves. By the way, German-speakers, Italian-speakers, the people are actually more or less the same. Almost everyone was doing Latin not too long ago. Also, this 1918 to Italy is so short term. The reality of this region, which goes back to Roman times, is it has gone back and forth so many times, I've lost count. "Austria" and "Italy" so far are merely blips in history. The people are what matter. take care. :) Taalo 01:02, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

I would like to join in on the conversation if I can, because obviously I'm trying to take a lead in coming to a fair solution. I do have a strong reason to want a fair and neutral situation, because this region is my home. I hope I have shown that I'm trying to explain the history and situation in this region to the best of my ability, and I'm promoting a neutral view. If either of you have any questions, please ask me. I just posted a darn mini-dissertation on the talk pages of South Tyrol, Trentino-South Tyrol and Bozen-Bolzano. I have seen what appears to be one sockpuppet. I hope whoever this is comes out and just lets us joke it off. Please don't let one person disrespect either side of this debate. Lastly, and this definitely applies to me with regard to assuming good faith. I am sorry, but from the archives of what Gryffindor has done, he has lost my assumption of good faith. I think I have this right? I admit that it makes my blood boil what he has done systematically over the course of a year to these pages. If you read my mini-dissertation, you might understand why I find this disturbing. Given my family is from here, seeing someone from over in Vienna abusing WP to do this, well.. it is hard to maintain that warm/fuzzy feeling. I've said before, actions speak more than words. I've been directly critical with him, I know it doesn't make myself look good, it doesn't help my argument.. but this has brought out strong emotions in me. Simply because I find the POV that has been pushed as thoroughly discusting. That said, you all are obviously senior users. I would appreciate any advice in this. I would also appreciate an open mind into possible unethnical things Gryffindor may have done, and as well guide me in doing this process correctly. I am open to being critized. Lastly, I'd like if you please ask me if you have questions about this region, so I can simply educate everyone to the best of my ability and come to a fair and neutral situation. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't this what WP is about? I would argue for this position with Kosovo, Cyprus, what have you. I am completely against any sort of biased ultra view. The situation that has been slowly created from 25 Oct. 2005 is ultra, if you are even vaguely familiar with this region. I feel a certain user has been rather cunning in pushing the pages to this ultra view. If you all want to turn a blind eye to it, I mean, that is your choice. And damn, in the Real World, this region is just such a very beautiful place, with a rich culture, and the people definitely get along... yeesh. This entire mess is really a diservice to the land and people. regards. Taalo 00:54, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Oh my... this is a total mess. I spent quite a some time browsing thorught this articles and I just lost myself. I think we need some kind of a list. A list of everything that is screwed up. I see that Province of Bolzano (Bozen) has two separate talk pages. I persume there are more of such things... man, you're right, this is a total mess. I don't know what to do, I think we should assemble a list of the problems, then gather 3-4 uninvolved admins, sort the mess out (which means merge histories and talk pages) and then decide what to do next. Because, before we start mediating here, we need to clear up this mess. Do you know which articles have been a target of move-wars and copy-pastes? --Dijxtra 14:57, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hipi

What made you vote support?

I explained that here.

I noticed that it was a moment after my vote - did that made you decide?

Nope, I proposed the remedy, so it was pretty obdious I'll support it :-) Your vote had nothing to do with that (and it wasn't a moment, it was half an hour later ;-) ).

Are you aware that he will always return

No, I'm not. In fact, I think that he will give up eventualy.

and that he's the leading administrator on the Albanian WIkipedia.

Yes, I'm aware of that. Bormalagurski was bureaucrat on srwiki and we block him every now and then. The fact that sqwiki is administered by person not capable of civilised editing in hostile environment has nothing to do with enwiki... at least that's my personal opinion.

We should, no, must influence him.

Well, you try it. He's been here for almost 2 years. If in 2 years he didn't learn that you're not supposed to edit-war during an ArbCom case against you, then I doubt he will ever became an useful contributor to this encyclopedic project. But, of course, you don't have to share my opinion.

Also, I remember you mentioning a long time ago how you were grateful to me for fighting Albanian POV bias and etc (but lacked fighting Serbian)... Could you show me the diffs where I did such thing? :) --PaxEquilibrium 10:06, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Ummmm... see, my memory is a bit weak. Could you dig the diff where I said that? Then I'll try to remember the timeframe and then dig the diffs up. --Dijxtra 14:24, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
When you voted on my RfA (I am grateful for all his counter-Albanian bias, but I fail to see him fighting Serbian bias... I might've rephrased it a little - but that's basicly what you voted). --PaxEquilibrium 17:50, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
Oh, yes, I remember now... but I can't remember what diffs I had in mind :-) I browsed through your contributions and I remember seeing some reverting albanian vandalism, but I can't remember what and where it was, unfortunately. --Dijxtra 18:09, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
Well, Hipi did add that the Nemanjics have descendents in a village near Decani - a tribe called "Nimani", who appearently claim that the House of Nemanyiden was ethnicly Albanian on two articles: Stefan Nemanja and Stefan Dusan - but that's all ;). --PaxEquilibrium 20:06, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Afrika paprika & Croatia

Afrika paprika claims that the Serbo-Croatian language doesn't exist, nor has ever existed in fact - this is now over the line. See the history of Nikola Tesla article. His uncivil remarks elsewhere are not nice as well. Whereas he openly denied the possibility of the southern Dalmatian Principalities (Pagania, blah, blah... - regardless of the fact if this is even untrue) being Serbian (and at several other places, calling everything that "Greater Serb shit") conducting de-serbianization, he is massly conducting croatization (see Bunjevci, Šokci); firstly I trully believed that he holds the autochtonousness of every people, but now I get a plain picture: Where are Serbs - there're no Serbs! Where are Croats! Hail, there're Croats!

Can you give me some recent (say, last 2-3 days) diffs where he breaks some of Wikipedia rules, so I can warn him?

P. S. Please see Croatia#History. It's too POV to present it in the main article on the Republic of Croatia; perhaps it should be mentioned at Croatian War of Independence.. or History of Croatia. Cheers, mate! --PaxEquilibrium 20:29, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Don't know, I never edited the Croatia article. If you consider it to be to POV, well, rewrite it :-) --Dijxtra 20:34, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Well, aside of his very uncivil discussion (WP:Civility) at User_talk:Afrika paprika to the bottom (where he justifies crimes, calling them "retribution").

Aside from that, there's Wikipedia:Verifiability from Croats... and edit warring on Nikola Tesla (but using annonymous IPs). --PaxEquilibrium 21:10, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Oh, he violated WP:3RR on Nikola Tesla, but avoided penalty because he edited from an anonymous IP (100% self-confirmation that it was him). --PaxEquilibrium 21:18, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

As for 3RR, you had to mention the fact that he self-confirmed when you reported him to AN/3RR, and then admin would have blocked him for sure. I think you can now just contact the admin who failed your 3RR report and present him evidence that Afrita used that IP, and he'll block him.
As for verifiability, I see we have an admin dealing with that issue ;-) I'm sure Duja is capable of solving the situation.
As for edit warring, I have put Nikola Tesla article on my watchlist, and will warn him if he starts reverting again. I mean, I can't warn him for 2 reverts in few days since he didn't do no edit warring for last 3 months (at least not on that article).
As for civility, calling war crimes retribution is not a civility issue, it's matter of being sane. And I can't block him for being insane, he has every right to bend history every way he wishes, as long as he does that on talk page. When he starts insulting people, then I'll act. --Dijxtra 07:51, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
Well, aside from calling things I say "Greater Serb shit" and getting away with it (a lot of time passed), he wasn't openly incivil (lately). I am just wondered how he always searches in-deep who started it and then the call all atrocities/crimes of the other side responces to that, justifying them. Remember when I asked you to influence him? I believe that he would much more listen to an ethnic... well there, I'll say it.. "ethnic Croat" (although Ante Perkovic did try - and failed - by the way, is this enough for a RfC if he continues it?). --PaxEquilibrium 19:13, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Requested moves

  1. This is not a vote.
Yeah, I know. But counting votes helps determining consensus. How do you determine consensus, BTW? (note that this is not a flame bite but just a question)
  2. If there is good reason for a move, that reason with the nomination is sufficient to do the move;
Yes, I know, I have moved some pages with no votes at all since it was quite an obvious move.

in all but these cases, administrative assistance is not necessary. —Centrxtalk • 04:44, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

Hm. I didn't get this one. If I understood you correctly, administrative assistance is necessary only with trivial moves?
Also, there is no reason to note on the talk page that it was relisted. —Centrxtalk • 04:46, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
Well, I think there is. Because it moves the talkpage to top of people's watchlist, which is always a good thing if you are relisting an article, don't you think?

BTW, how come that you have come to me now, I haven't done page moves in more than a week... --Dijxtra 08:43, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

I've been dealing with the old ones; they're about a week old :) To determine consensus I look at the reasons given, usually how they apply to the policies that the most common name is used in the title and whatever naming convention policy people bring up. Requested moves is probably the process where the most people commenting have little idea about Wikipedia standards; for example, if two experienced editors are citing the naming convention and NPOV and six fans are talking about their favorite name, the reasons given based on policy are paramount. What I meant about administrative assistance not being necessary is that common moves aren't evaluated by an admin, so if the only comment is one person is clearly an expert on 15th century Bulgarian history, might as well move it. —Centrxtalk • 00:49, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

Dijxtra wrote:

Is there a policy on deleting blocked userpages? I'm asking this because you deleted a bunch of userpages of users I blocked and now I need the blocking rationales which I wrote on the talk pages. Luckily for me, I'm an admin so I can retrieve those, so it's not that big deal, but anyway, I'd like to see the policy according to which you're deleting the userpages. Thanks, Dijxtra 08:40, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi. As far as I am aware, there is no policy stating that the userpages of indefinitely blocked users must, or should, be blocked. As I'm sure you'll agree, however, the lack of a policy insisting that something be done does not mean that doing it is out of the question. Large changes to the way that indefinitely blocked users' pages are handled have been taking place over the last month. It was formerly the case that indefinitely blocked users had their User and Talk pages tagged with suitable templates (such as {{indefblockeduser}}), then left indefinitely. These templates used to categorize these pages into such categories as Category:Wikipedia inappropriate username blocks. However, these were all deleted during a wave of CfD discussions concerning such categories. The userpages remained, but were no longer accessible from these (rather large) categories as they had previously been. For the record, I took no part whatsoever in any of these discussions.

In the last couple of weeks, the most common indefinite block templates have been altered to categorize pages to which they are applied in Category:Temporary Wikipedian userpages. As the name suggests, the pages are not supposed to stay in there forever. Instead, they are meant to be deleted after they have not been edited in over a month. (This is distinct from deleting them one month after the date of the block, thereby preventing them being deleted too early if the blocked user says something on their talk page). Again, this was in no way my idea, and I was completely uninvolved at this point.

The category page says, "Administrators will periodically delete pages in this category that were not edited in over a month." Since all the pages ever tagged with {{indefblockeduser}} and the others were now in this category, as of last Friday it contained over 12,000 pages most of which had not been edited for well over a month. Clearly whoever set up this system did not have the time or technical skills necessary to write and run a deletion script to remove all the pages in the category that had not been edited for over a month. This is where I come in.

I deleted about 11,000 pages that met the necessary criteria. Looking at the category afterwards, I decided that many of the remaining pages should really be speedy deleted as attack pages. Although the page content may only be a template, the names of many indefinitely blocked accounts contain vicious personal attacks directed at administrators and others. This, I believe, makes them eligible for speedy deletion as attack pages under criterion G10. (Notice that until recently, I would not have been able to do this, as there was no G10 criterion, only A8 and I6 for articles and images, respectively. Recently the criterion was broadened to include all namespaces).

Having deleted these, I also decided to remove some other indefinitely blocked users' pages with personal attacks in the usernames, by combing through Special:Allpages/User talk: and picking them out. Being personal attacks these were again subject to speedy deletion. In the process I also picked out a number of usernames that, while not personal attacks, were meaningless, offensive, or even libellous, or otherwise against our username policy. (The vast majority were of course already indefinitely blocked; I took care of those that weren't). Since these were not speedyable, I couldn't delete them straight away, however many of them did contain {{indefblockeduser}} or a similar template. The only reason they weren't in Category:Temporary Wikipedian userpages was that the template was subst:ed onto the page when it was created, and so the template was not affected by the recent addition of the new category to the template. (They were affected by the removal of the old categories as a bot went through and removed them all). I reasoned that since they ought to be in Category:Temporary Wikipedian userpages, and if the user was blocked now, would be there, as part of the task of cleaning out the category I should also delete any of these that had not been edited in a month. The deletion summary that I applied to all 12,000 actions sums this up: temporary userpage over 1 month old for indefinitely blocked user.

I will now make it clear that I deleted only two types of pages. For the first, I was merely following instructions (those set out at Category:Temporary Wikipedian userpages). I think this new system is a vast improvement over what was there before; it gets rid of a whole load of useless pages, makes Special:Allpages/User: almost usable again, and reduces the incentive to offensive username vandals by denying them the privilege of their own userpage in that name. But I did not come up with it; it has only emerged following a lengthly debate centered around WP:DENY and CfD nominations.

The second batch of pages I deleted was found by searching through the page list (a search which I intend to continue later). However, unlike the first, in this search I only included one type of indefinite block – an inappropriate username (at first, only personal attacks, later, other reasons as well). That the block was for an inappropriate username should be obvious from the name itself, and if not, from the block summary (e.g. "username" or "user..."), so the retention of the page to provide a block rationale in this case should be unnecessary.

To summarize, the pages I deleted were either sitting there waiting to be deleted or were screaming at me "delete me!" from the page because of their inappropriateness. (Many of the pages in Category:Temporary Wikipedian userpages were doing this too, giving me two reasons to delete them). Since you had to look at the deleted revision to find the block rationale, I am assuming that the block was not simply a username block, nor a simple vandalism block (as a look at the user's contributions or a one-word block summary "vandalism" would have told you that).

I offer this: While I apologize for any inconvenience caused on your part, if you cannot see the reason for one of your own blocks by looking at the block summary, perhaps it is time to re-evaluate your use of block summaries. Thank you – Gurch 10:37, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

Just to reply on my block summaries part: the talk pages you deleted contained the full list of sockpuppets of blocked user, and you must agree that such info is not appropriate for block summary. --Dijxtra 11:22, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

Yes, I agree with that entirely. Sorry if I sounded a bit harsh. I appreciate your need to record that information somewhere. You might be able to post it at Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets. Since this is an established sockpuppet, there wouldn't be much need for a debate, but if you created a file, closed it and archived it in the standard way, the result seems to be a fairly good way of recording a user's sockpuppeting activities. (See Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Archive/October 2006 for an example of what the archives look like). Failing that, try Wikipedia:Long term abuse. For now, feel free to restore the page if you're likely to need it – Gurch 11:56, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Aha, nadjoh

The Велика анти-фашистичка народно-ослободилачка скупштина Србије was held in 9-12 November 1944. It was decided that a federal unit of the Democratic Federal Yugoslavia by the name of "Serbia" is created. It was split on 16 Districts and each district was further split onto administrative districts, but the district assemblies were in truth never elected/formed. The question of neighbouring historical Serbian regions was left unresolved, although it adopted the old AVNOJ directive by recognizing the seccessions of Macedonia & Montenegro and the formations of Vojvodina and Kosmet as autonomous. A year later, in 1945, several districts of Sandzak were annexed to the "People's Republic of Serbia", the "Autonomous Province of Vojvodina" joined Serbia, as well as the "Autonomous Region of Kosmet". The final formation the PR Serbia was concluded in 16 May 1945, when the Predsedništvo Glavnog Narodno-oslobodilačkog odbora Vojvodine brought the decision of seccession of Baranja from it (Serbia) and annexed it to Croatia. In 9-10 July 1945 the Regional Assembly of Kos-met brought the decision of abolition of the Region's autonomy, but Tito vetoed that decision.

There, satisfied? ;)

Yeah. Thanks. I'll try to source that out and form an article when I'm done with my exams.

P. S. - if you're chasing all of 'em, you'll get into trouble. As far as I know the Bay of Kotor and Istria had their own; and I believe Vojvodina and Dalmatia as well... the list is endless (perhaps also Sandzak & Kosmet?) --PaxEquilibrium 08:49, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

I'm fine with this compromise. Don't worry, I'm not trying to suggest Yugoslav=Serb, but it's just as bad to remove it altogether, which is why I changed "cognate peoples" to "closely related peoples". It's important to note that for many Serbs, Yugoslav and Serb identities are not at all exclusive. --estavisti 16:51, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

Scrambling your password and disabling e-mail is a good solution, there's no way you can get back in after that. I think I know another way, it is possible to prevent you logging in using a script in your user javascript. This will stop you from logging in, yet avoid any collateral damage for others wanting to use the IP. Is it ok if I do this? I presume you use the default monobook skin? the wub "?!" 17:24, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
I blocked him. It's quite sad to see a person requesting a block, but I think that at this point we are loosing too much time on this discussion because it is evident that he decided to be indefblocked. Of course, everybody's free to wear suns^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^Hunblock him, I don't want to have anything with this any more, if you think I shouldn't have done this, just unblock him. --Dijxtra 17:28, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Features and admins

Since the Wikipedia Signpost is published every Monday, the "Features and admins" section attempts to list all of the featured content, as well as administrators, that were promoted from Tuesday to Sunday of the previous week. I was merely building off the previous column, written by Ral315, found here.

Also, the section was mislabeled as being the "TROLL" section, when it was the "Features and admins" section. Sorry for any confusion there. If you have any questions, please contact me at my talk page. Ian Manka 10:38, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

After my updating of the format of the page, you'r bot might be outdated, and to some extend obsolete. Sorry for the inconvinience. AzaToth 12:35, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

Your bot is still doing "non-sense" edits to the ACIdpage (like moving an hr or simlar. perhaps you should update the bot. AzaToth 13:13, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
I feel it's still a bit strange that the bot is just moving two spaces at each update.

[edit] Population

+ Ovo..........

I don't know much about the Chetniks but i thought they were just the same as Ustashe (Nazi allies)...but the Chetniks switched before the war ended.

I looked on the Chetniks site on Wiki and no mention of Chetniks being Nazis yet the Ustashe one is riddled with negative Cro Pov. Should someone add to Chetnik article that they were Nazis too?

What do you think??? I think one needs to be fair...Chetniks were just as bad as Ustashe. Same Tree. Same Branch.

[edit] Branko's bridge

Sorry, that's not true. After his suicide, this bridge got this name. That is something you should know. --Pockey 18:39, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

--Pockey 22:40, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the information. I see you are well informed! This Kingdom of Yugoslavia, I thought that only came into effect in December 1929. Can Kingdom of Yugoslavia actually pass for Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes? Evlekis 16:25, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re:Independent State of Croatia#Population

Well, I can't name the precise source from which I took it - because 6.3 million, of whom a 3rd were Serbs (not counting 750,000 Muslims) is a figure repeated everywhere. So here's one instance - Robert Donia's and John Junior V. A. Fine's Bosnia and Herzegovina: A Tradition Betrayed. If memory serves me well (but don't 100% pull my word on this one), the figures are from some Nazi German officers' reports... I missed also 30,000 Jews. Bog! --PaxEquilibrium 19:24, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

Vidio sam da pise da je 39% stanovnistva bilo muslimansko, a 19% srpsko - po toj logici broj Srba se nakon Drugog svjetskog rata uvecao 3 puta, a Bosnjaka jedno 3-4 puta umanjio. :))) --PaxEquilibrium 19:51, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Kingdom of Yugo

There; does this help? :) --PaxEquilibrium 17:36, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
Da, da, da, kad sam reko sfry sam mislio na DFJ, isti kurac ;-) Al, nebi se slozio da partizani 1943 postaju vojska kraljevine. Jesi ti siguran u to? --Dijxtra 17:48, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
--PaxEquilibrium 23:16, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Dictatorship

Royal dictatorship lasted in 1929-1931. Not 1945 (especially not 1945). It was later again a Constitutional Monarchy, and especially after the assassination of the King, when a situation similar to the ol' triple Kingdom (except in the end it turned into personal dictatorships of Pavle Karadjordjevic and Vlatko Macek assisted by other powerful people like Milan Stojadinovic, Radenko Stankovic, Ivan Perovic, Dragisa Cvetkovic, Ivan Subasic...). Sorry for correcting you again; I must've become a pain in the ass by now. :) --PaxEquilibrium 20:40, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User:Giovanni Giove and User:GiorgioOrsini

Hello. I've noticed you had a minor dispute with GiorgioOrsini user on Juraj Dalmatinac article. I am starting to suspect lately that GiorgioOrsini is actually a sockpuppet of someone else...namely the user Giovanni Giove. Evidence? Well they show interest for the same thing - Dalmatian/Venetian related articles and reverting anything connected with Croatia in them. They also exhibit strange coincidences in their english grammar mistakes. Of coure I've noticed that the articles where GiorgioOrsini is present Giovanni Giove is not and vice versa but they are having the same analogy and model which would indicate that it is most likely one person changing accounts when needed. Can you please check this? --Factanista 15:11, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Some tips & good words

You should've/could've written that he made a 3RR violation in the edit summary, to make more sense. It would also protect yah from the incoming I was merely reverting the edits of a community-banned troll working "underground" as an anon that way.

Tip: I've come to understanding that Users get very infuriated when they're blocked - a good countermeasure would be writing on their talk page informing them about the block (before they realize it themselves, when they finally decide to edit, click the button and then discover the awkward situation). It only costs you some words, and the gains are a +1 on your User talk edit count and prevention of future misunderstandings and troubles.
