[edit] Changes to Portal:Pakistan

A'Sallam,

I have made the following changed to the Portal:Pakistan

  • Removed the "Categories" and "Wikiprojects" boxes, as requested (by Wolverine) and replaced it with the "This Week back in history" box, which i hope is reguarly updated. Otherwise, I will change it to another box as the portal should be continually updated.
  • The "Archives" are corrected. I would like article and images to be as varied as possible so we can represent many parts of Pakistan...if you have any ideas do let me know.
  • I think the notice board for pakistan related topics needs to be formated as it has been left for so long without much use. The noticeboard needs to be reader friendly so it is easy to join the community. For ideas check some of the other noticeboards from the list of noticeboards.
  • I am going to change the image and feature article on Friday so let me know of some ideas as soon as possbile? The feature article and image for week one are already into the archives as WEEK ONE.

Many thanks, Fast track 21 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Need your Help

I need support in editing the page for Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh from Pakistani-Wikipedians. The page concludes Pakistans link to 9/11 using information from Indian press and much information in that page is without proper references. The page says that ISI gives money to Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh and Sheikh then wired the money to Atta. I have checked some of the references on that page and information in the references is different from what is mentioned in it. I will appreciate any help because I have very less free time these days... Faisal 16:57, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] List of Pakistani television stations and List of Pakistani television and radio channels

Don't merge. The Television and radio stations in Pakistan must have sepearate pages. Pakistan with five regional languages and 165 million people will have hundreds of radio and television stations. The online radio stations are also becaming easier and cheaper to maintain, soon people will adding these channels also. The mass media is exploding and one page will not be enough. We must have seperate pages:

List of Television Stations of Pakistan
List of Radio Stations of Pakistan

[edit] The Wiki Pakistan Community

Hi Digitalsurgeon,

Firstly, just like to say your doing a good job creating alot of awareness of Pakistan through all these articles, especially your work on the main Pakistan Portal coding.

I was wondering if you have seen the following page, its a place where alot of people work as a team to progress and work together on articles and images of Wikipedia.

The Pakistani community for sometime has been very dormant, as there were not many people here to write articles related to Pakistan. If you go the following "Project page" you will see a new community has been formed, where I think alot of us should asign tasks and work more as a community than individually. Here's the link;

Wikipedia:Notice board for Pakistan-related topics. Do take a look at all the other communities the way they are working to improve articles and promote their communities.

I think its about time we all do the same. As you may notice everthing is just been laid out, so now its our turn to fill the gaps. Do pass the word on to other Pakistanis and people working on Pakistani articles.

Many thanks, Fast track 06:59 08 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Abdul sattar.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

[edit] Iqbal page

Hi, as someone who's obviously active in the upkeep of Pakistan-related articles, I humbly direct your attention to Allama Iqbal's page. It has numerous subtle, scathing remarks and my attempts to change them to accurate representations are being constantly thwarted.

It seems to me that you are acting in an uncivil manner. Please remain civil and don't resort to making personal attacks or instigate edit wars. Rama's Arrow 17:13, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Iqbal revert

See the history. Its quite self explanatory.Bharatveer 12:41, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

A fellow wikipedian I guess. I think there is not much coming up in our discussion .So I am leaving it to other editors to decide. - Regards Bharatveer 12:54, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
All data in the article is properly referenced - I've already removed stuff on his marriages/affairs that I couldn't find proper sources for. You have already violated WP:NPOV, WP:POINT and WP:NPA by your abusive messaging to Bharatveer and me. You must also not engage in revert wars. Your anon ally didn't seem to understand that Wikipedia articles are not the place for political debate, Indo-Pak or anybody else. The criticism section is entirely focused on Iqbal and his ideas, and not on other events.

It is important to keep a cool head, especially when responding to comments against you or your edits. Personal attacks and disruptive comments only escalate a situation; please keep calm and remember that action can be taken against other parties if necessary. Attacking another user back can only satisfy trolls or anger contributors and leads to general bad feeling. Please try to remain civil with your comments. Thanks! People who use abusive language should not use such templates on others. The book by V.S. Naipaul is a perfectly legitimate source.

[edit] Iqbal page under attack by Rama's Arrow

Hi, as you well know, this page has numerous subtle remarks and delibrately leds the reader to get a negative impression of Iqbal, Islam, and Pakistan. I'd like to know the official way of complaining against this user.

[edit] Hi Digital Surgeon

Thanks for your enthusiasm and energy. Please this page:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notice_board_for_Pakistan-related_topics

And post your email adress at the bottom of the member's emails section. I recommend you do that so that you may, if you choose, be able to communicate privately with fellow Pakwikipedians to improve, elaborate and make more systematic joint tasks regarding Pakistan related articles. Pakwikipedians can always use a good pair of hands. And your profile does suggest lots of energy, knowledge base and fair judgment. Thanks.Omerlives

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Atifaslam.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Atifaslam.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Nv8200p talk 04:44, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Copyright problems with Image:WikiPakistan1.png

An image that you uploaded, Image:WikiPakistan1.png, has been listed at Wikipedia:Copyright problems because it is a suspected copyright violation. Please look there if you know that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), and then provide the necessary information there and on its page, if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you.

Ambuj Saxena () 18:11, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Movial, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. If you plan to add more material to the article, I advise you to do so immediately. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources which verify their content. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Tonywalton  | Talk 14:33, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:A_mirror_to_blind.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:A_mirror_to_blind.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ↔NMajdantalk 16:19, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Sajjad_Ali.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Sajjad_Ali.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sherool (talk) 00:18, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Bilquis_edhi.jpg

I have tagged Image:Bilquis_edhi.jpg as {{replaceable fair use}}. If you wish to dispute this assertion, please add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}} to the image description page and a comment explaining your reasoning to the the image talk page. MER-C 11:19, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Ali haider.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Ali haider.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 06:44, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Green Software

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Green Software, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Green Software.
