[edit] Comparison of Systems

Does anyone have a top-level comparison of the various systems. A table may serve, followed by more detailed explanation of the differences ... followed perhaps on a historical perspective on the behind-the-scenes machinations. There was an idea once upon a time that there would be a universal (global) HDTV standard ... does anyone have a good handle of how this patchwork quilt emerged from the good intent to agree on a global HDTV system?Enquire (talk) 14:39, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] how do I remove the stupid Citation Needed

I put the info in the table for Mexico, But I can't remove the citation Needed thing. Andorra, the United Kingdom and other countries on that table don't Say Citation needed at the end. I copyied some code from andora and UK but i couldn't remove the Citation needed. How do I remove this? Joeloliv8 21:26, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image

I found an image using Google, that shows a map of what countries are using which standard. Would it be ok to add this image here, how would I find out if it's copyrighted.

6-13-2007

Chances are, its copyrighted and probably replaceable with a free image, and so wouldn't be suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia. Could you provide a link and we can see for ourselves? Regarding what DTT refers to, as this is a article which chronicles the worldwide implementation of DTT, ISDB-T and ATSC would also apply to this article. --tgheretford (talk) 21:45, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

here's a link to the image [1]

Isn't DTT referring to any technology which is broadcasting digital and terrestrial? So, as far as I understand it, it's not only about DVB-T, but also ISDB-T and ATSC.

[edit] External links

I've removed the external links from this page because they were all either inappropriate (links to online stores selling DTV equipment is not appropriate; this is an encyclopedia not a shopping site) or spam not relevant to this topic. It would be good if someone could add some relevant links relating to the technology. David Johnson 15:00, 23 Nov 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Merge?

Is there any reason this article should exist at all? It does not seem to add anything over the much more comprehensive digital television article. 18.26.0.18 05:56, 13 Feb 2005 (UTC)

I think that it would not be a good idea to merge this, the digital television article is long enough already and this is an article which details a major aspect of Digital television and as such it deserves the attention and importance of a seperate page AllPeopleUnite 17:35, 9 April 2006 (UTC)

I agree with AllPeopleUnite that the article shouldn't be merged with Digital television, för the reasons stated by him. DTT is a particular form of digital television and the article has potential to be long enough. The mergoto-template should be removed from this page. Väsk 12:06, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
Do you have a counter-suggestion that would eliminate the substantial overlap between the two articles? 121a0012 01:21, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
The merge tag has been removed from the digital television article now, perhaps it can be removed from here too... Neilajh 22:40, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

At the very least, this article should detail in the first section why this is different at all from TDT. It is incredibly confusing to have the two acronyms described differently, even though the acronyms stand for the same thing. If there is an important difference with TDT and the other article, at the very least it should be made clear. I couldn't find the difference in the article, esp. since the article mentions DVB-T all the time. I only found out that DTT existed because a translator we worked with translated TDT in a Spanish text as DTT, citing Wikipedia. ThomasVanderStichele 11:57, 4 Sep 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Table

I would like to see a timetable for launching of DTT and closing of ATT througout the world, so I'll start constructing one. However, I'm not certain I'll be able to complete it myself, so I'll start it here and then it can be added to the article when it becomes more comprehensive. Väsk 19:58, 18 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Finland and Belgium using MHP?

I think Finland uses MHP --- at least is it used to! And Belgium too rings a bell if memory serves me right. Can someone with more knowledge than me check this out and update the table if I am right.

[edit] Questions

1. Can you get a faster internet service than cable television from this system, or indeed any internet service at all? That would be a major advantage, or disadvantage if you cannot. 2. Why are there different systems, is there any plan to make them united, and what consequences if any does the current diversity have for dtt's future? 3. Under 'Advantages', points 1 and 2 appear to be the same: better quality reception/picture, leaving just more channels as the two principal advantages of this system. Is this accurate? 4. What is really driving this development (given that the advantages so far outlined in the article do not seem to be great and apparently a TV aerial will still be needed)? 86.42.90.145 (talk) 15:02, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
