[edit] History

Digium was founded by Mark Spencer as Linux Support Services in 1999. The original goal of the company was to provide contract support and development for Linux. Because Mark did not have the resources to purchase a PBX for his new company, he decided to begin writing one from scratch.

In 2001, the U.S. economy entered a period of recession, and demand for the company's services dried up. Mark decided to shift the company's focus to its fledgling open-source PBX product, Asterisk. The company was renamed "Digium" and incorporated as such in 2002.

[edit] Software

  • Asterisk, Digium's most well-known product, is an open-source PBX application which runs on commodity PC hardware.
  • Asterisk Business Edition is a commercial version of Asterisk that is sold by Digium. Digium claims it undergoes more testing than the open source version.

[edit] IAXy

The IAXy is an analog telephony adapter (ATA). Unlike most such adapters, the IAXy uses the IAX2 protocol for VoIP. Because it uses the IAX protocol it has less problems being used behind a NAT firewall, but is less supported than SIP based ATAs.[citation needed]

[edit] PCI cards

Digium makes a range of analog and digital PCI cards designed to work with Asterisk.
