Different Seasons (1982) is a novella collection by Stephen King containing the following stories:

Three movies, The Shawshank Redemption (based on Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption), Apt Pupil, and Stand By Me (based on The Body), were made based on the stories from this book.

To date (2008), The Breathing Method has not been film-adapted. The story is inspired by the five elderly recanteurs in Peter Straub's 1979 novel Ghost Story. In King's case, one such man tells his presumably autobiographical tale at a highbrow gentlemen's club (an inspiration from The Chowder Society in Straub's novel). The horror tale within the story itself recounts how, some sixy-years in the past, one of the male members (presently a retired physician) once helped a mysterious woman deliver her baby even after the mother-to-be had been decapitated in an automobile accident.
