"It was in the 1994 Cup that he was part of an incident with David Beckham; the English star kicked Simeone and was sent off. Never a big scorer, Simeone has scored 11 goals for his country."

Wasn't it in 1998?

Correct, 1998.
In 1994 they didn't play together.

[edit] Controversial

User:GoldDragon changed

"During the 1998 Cup that he was part of an incident with David Beckham; the English star kicked Simeone and was sent off; Simeone responded verbally to Beckham's foul, to which the Englishman reacted (see also Argentina and England football rivalry)."

with

"During the 1998 World Cup that he was part of an incident with David Beckham; Simeone deliberately fouled Beckham, causing the English star to be sent off after he retaliated. During the next match against Netherlands, Simeone was injured by a tackle during his team's elimination. In 2002, during another match-up against England, Simeone tried again to foul Beckham but it was unsuccessful and Argentina lost the game, which eliminated them from the playoff round."

I don't see the point of much of the added text:

  1. "Simeone deliberately fouled Beckham, causing the English star to be sent off after he retaliated.": This is bad especulation. Simeone fouled Beckham so he would get mad, retaliate and get him sent of??? Way out of place.
  2. during another match-up [...] Simeone tried again to foul Beckham but it was unsuccessful and Argentina lost the game. Hm, really notable that he tried to fould him (again especulation). So Argentina lost the game because Simeone tried to foul Beckham and failed? Nonsense.

Trying to make him look like a victim of Simeone is not neutral, and this should be rephrased or restored to its previous version. Mariano(t/c) 07:36, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

Check this article, which has a reference to Simeone admitting that he deliberately fouled Beckham. GoldDragon 12:28, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
No, there it says he admitted "trying to get Beckham sent off", not "deliberately foul" nobody. Please, be accurate when making this kind of accusations, and find a consensus BEFORE editing the article for the third time. And Beckham scoring in 2002 very little to do with Simeone. I'll try to fix it to show Simeone's "admition". Mariano(t/c) 12:38, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Simeone leaving Racing

Article states that Simeone 'left Racing because the pressure was too great', I was under the impression that once club owner Marin left Racing, the new owners wanted Merlo in, so Simeone was forced to leave. AFAIK, Simeone wanted to complete his contract at Racing which had six months left. I will check all this and edit if needs be, but if anyone knows for sure the background, please post.
