[edit] Licensing
This image is of a poster, and the copyright for it is most likely owned by either the publisher or the creator of the work depicted. It is believed that the use of scaled-down, low-resolution images of posters
qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Any other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, may be copyright infringement. See Wikipedia:Non-free content for more information. |
This poster is copyrighted property. However, its use on Die hard constitutes fair use since:
- It is used on the main article about the subject, and serves as a primary illustration for identification.
- The resolution has been reduced from the original to make it presentable in the encyclopedic format. No substantial, or substantive, changes have been made to the meaning or presentation in these alterations.
- It does not deprive the owner of any revenue, or opportunities.
- It is clear that no endorsement of the article is implied, nor is it likely that any confusion will occur from this placement.
- No free substitute can be made, nor is it replaceable.
As a result, the use in this situation constitutes fair use. Haemo 02:32, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
Fair use is also justified on 1980s in film for the above reasons (2)-(5), with (1) replaced by "Due to the stature of the film in question, it serves as an iconic representation for movies of its era". Haemo
