Dieveniškės

Dieveniškės (Polish: Dziewieniszki, Belarusian: Дівініхук) literaly 'Gods place', is a village in the Vilnius County of Lithuania, located about 2 miles (3.2 km) away from the Belarusian border, and 80km (35 miles) SSE from Vilnius. Dieveniškės is mostly 11,000 acres (45 km²) of forested national park.

The town of Dieveniškės was established some time around 1379-1392. This area of Lithuania was taken over by Napoleon during the late 1700s. During the Soviet era, the village belonged to the Belarussian SSR. In 1991, when the Baltic states regained independence, the village was handed back over to Lithuania.
