Dietram Scheufele

Dietram A. Scheufele is Professor of Life Sciences Communication and Journalism & Mass Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He also serves as Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Life Sciences Communication and is a faculty affiliate of the Robert and Jean Holtz Center for Science and Technology Studies. Prior to joining UW, Scheufele was a tenured faculty member and Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Communication at Cornell University.

He has published extensively in the areas of public opinion and political communication, including work on framing theory, participatory democracy and the spiral of silence. His most-cited article, "Framing as a theory of media effects", was published in 1999 in Journal of Communication and has been cited over 200 times.[1][2]

Scheufele is recipient of the Robert M. Worcester Award for best article of the year from the World Association for Public Opinion Research, the Young Scholar Award for outstanding early career research from the International Communication Association, and the Young Faculty Teaching Excellence Award from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University.
