Dr. Dieter Salomon (born August 9, 1960 in Melbourne, Australia) is a German politician and current mayor of Freiburg im Breisgau. He is a member of the Alliance '90/The Greens.

Dieter Salomon grew up in the German Allgäu. He received his Abitur in 1979 and moved to Freiburg to study Political Science, Public Finance and Roman Philology. He received a Dr. Phil from the University of Freiburg in 1991. During his time as a student he became active in the local chapter of the Alliance '90/The Greens.

He is married to Helen Hall-Salomon and has two children from a previous marriage.

From 1990 until 2000 he was a member of the Freiburg city council, as well as being a member of the Landtag of Baden-Württemberg from 1992.

In 2002 he became the mayor of Freiburg, receiving 64.4% of votes in the second ballot. He is the first Green mayor of a large German city and only the second in the whole of Germany. Once being elected mayor of Freiburg, he retired from his position in the Landtag, just after becoming the head of the fraction.
