Diego Mateo (born August 7, 1978 in Roldán, Santa Fe) is an Argentine football midfielder who has played professional football in Argentina, Italy and Spain, he currently plays for Gimnasia y Esgrima de Jujuy in Argentina.
Mateo started his professional career in 1996 with Newell's Old Boys, where he made 87 appearances, scoring 4 goals. In 2000 he joined lecce in Italy but left the club after making only 2 first team appearances.
Mateo spent several seasons with Racing de Santander in Spain, he has also played for Real Valladolid and Hércules in Spain and San Lorenzo in Argentina. In 2007 he signed for Gimnasia y Esgrima de Jujuy
