[edit] Taxonomic classification of Blue Dicks

Other sources (Jepson, USDA Plants, Calflora, California Native Plant Link Exchange) classify this plant as Liliaceae. I propose modifying this entry to reflect the classification indicated by the other authorities. I welcome any feedback on this proposal. I will wait at least a couple of weeks before making the change and will notify creator of the page, etc. before making the change.--Markisgreen 17:34, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

It's Liliaceae only in the broadest and least useful circumscription of the family. When the Jepson Manual project was begun in the mid-1980s, taxonomy of the large group was in flux, and it was decided to lump everything in the Liliaceae for the manual. By the time it was published in 1994, most of the family alignments were well-accepted, and now its use of "Liliaceae" in such a broad circumscription is seen as quaint and antiquated. Dichelostemma is no more Liliaceae than Agave, Allium, or Asparagus.--Curtis Clark (talk) 14:20, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
