Talk:Diamond Dallas Page
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] High school
DDP attended St Joseph's High School, now known as Monsignor Donovan High School, in Toms River, NJ. I think this should be added in somewhere, but I am not sure where since we really don't have much background info on him in the article. AriGold 21:44, 10 January 2006 (UTC) Sorry but my dad went to high school with him and that is a lie.
¤I talked personally to DDP and YES he did go to St. Joseph's HS but was thrown out. It's been added to the article.--Iadiedee28 23:26, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Rewrite
I re-writ the beginning of the article. Wikipedia isn't a chance to show of your fucking writing skills, people, nor is it a place to advertise your website. If that power-slam link was in any way related to the article in question, list it as a source.
Excuse you for the language. This is not the place for foul language.
The inclusion of that paragraph was by request from DDP himself. It's sad that you have a problem with it. Since the page is ABOUT HIM if he asks for something to be included it SHOULD BE. I'm currently rewriting the article by combining various sources including ongoing phone conversations with DDP that he will verify if necessary.
Since Page holds the Jorgensen site in high regard and I cited it within the paragraph (which you incorrectly removed) and at the end of the article in "citations" there shouldn't have been a problem with its' inclusion. I will not make any changes until after I am done rewording the text from the site and including information from his book, articles and conversations as I verify, or am told is unfounded, facts and happenings in his life and career.
My reasoning is sound. The text should be reverted to what was there before your improper deletion. I'm signing my ID which you did not do. Please go to my talk page if you wish to continue this dispute. --Iadiedee28 00:31, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
1) Stop being a pussy. I didn't ask to be excused. 2) Stop trying to hint that you know DDP. On the rare chance that you do, this changes nothing; wikipedia articles still aren't a place to show off creative writing skills, and first hand information cannot be added; outside sources are needed to verify any information given. 3) The citation was fucked up. It did not link as it was supposed to, and the beginning was "signed" by the person who wrote it. Lettuceclock 02:46, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Kimberly?
Does anyone know if Page and Kimberly are together or not? Just wondering. (MgHoneyBee 21:15, 23 March 2006 (UTC))
[edit] Image
There is a PD photo of him here.--Fallout boy 04:22, 3 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] WrestleMania V
Does anyone think this bit of trivia is worth putting in? The Cadillac that DDP drove Rhythm & Blues to the ring in was a prop at the nightclub that DDP managed in Ft Myers, FL, called "Norma Jean's" --Smart Mark Greene 07:17, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
Yea I dont see any reason why it should not be in there.
Eh. Wiki seems to be saying that articles with "trivia" sections should have said sections deleted, and the info implemented into the main page. However, this is still a "work in progress", meaning that I think for now it's absolutely fine. I say keep it. Lettuceclock 02:48, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Picking the name Dallas
The following line is completely false."The name "Dallas" is derived from his love of the Dallas Cowboys, despite having grown up near the home of the New York Giants and New York Jets." He grew up nowhere near the home of the Giants and Jets, as they both played in New York City at the time he was growing up. There are a lot of Dallas Cowboys fans in the area where he grew up, as there was no team in Jersey & at the time, a lot of people in NJ despised Philadelphia.--Hndsmepete 21:11, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
If you read his book, Positively Page, or listened to, watched or read any recent interviews you would know that YES his nickname of "Dallas" was derived from his love of the Dallas Cowboys. I asked him directly about this statement and he verified that the statement is indeed TRUE.--Iadiedee28 23:29, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
And if you read his post, you would realize that he was arguing that Dallas lived nowhere near the Giants/Jets stadium, as those of us with knowledge of football/geography can tell you.
[edit] Court Battle
Did Dallas Page win? What happened with his trademark dispute with Jay Z? --Screwball23 talk 16:14, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
Page won but is back in litigation at this time. --Iadiedee28 06:08, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Diamond Dream
I remember watching a match of DDP's toward the end of WCW where he performed a spinning DDT much like Mickie James' Finisher. Tony Schiavone or Mike Tenay then said that DDP called the move the Diamond Dream. I would add it to his list but I am not 100% sure on this, but I'm pretty sure it was a move of his toward the end of his WCW career. Anyone remember this? 216.47.153.16 16:13, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
You know, I also remember something like that, but I can't find a single source. Maybe it was Kanyon =/ Lettuceclock 02:49, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
-
- Spoke with DDP in email. Verified it is a modified Halo DDT/Flying DDT as stated in "Positively Page" Added to wrestling facts with appropriate links. --Iadiedee28 17:18, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:DDPWCWring.jpg
Image:DDPWCWring.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 23:05, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] loser years
Why is there no info on his life, and how he came from the gutter to reclaim himself. Or so ive heard. Portillo 08:07, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
- Page has asked the same question. With discussions on the phone, net and his books it's slowly being added Portillo. Keep checking back. --Iadiedee28 23:54, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Changes
Editing Wiki per request of DDP. Adding in early, pre-wrestling, section, citations and edit of inaccurate or untrue statements. Will use the Power Slam site by Jan Jorgensen, Direct quotes from DDP, his books, audio book and dvd's. --Iadiedee28 13:22, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] New Picture
I think we should change the picture of him to something more recent, or maybe add some into the article. If any can find a recent picture thats Public Domain, I'd be abliged Lettuceclock 20:05, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
- I disagree. The article is mostly about his wrestling career and he released this one under "Creative Commons-attribute-share alike" to be for use on Wiki since it is one of the best pictures released during his wrestling career. He released others under the same licensing for uploading to the body of the article. I just haven't had time to upload them yet. And yes, Lettuceclock, I *do* know him personally. --Iadiedee28 20:24, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
-
- I added more recent photos toward the bottom in the Motivational Speaker, Fitness Guru & Acting areas. Do they fit in ok? --Iadiedee28 02:48, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Unsourced comment - Trademarks
Should this remain?:
- "According to one source, the settlement included a monetary fee that was paid by Jay-Z to Page. In exchange for the fee, Page agreed to drop all claims in regards to the infringement suit. Each party paid their own legal fees."
The matter has been settled but this statement is "According to one source..." Who is that source? There are orders from the judge so "it is settled" is all that is able to be released. How is this a valid "source"? I cannot figure out who put it up or I'd ask them directly.
Input please. --Iadiedee28 04:24, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Requested move
Dallas Page → Diamond Dallas Page — Dallas Page isn't his Ring Name, maybe a nickname but not a Ring Name. His ring name is Diamond Dallas Page. It should be moved to fit his Ring name as others do. —Hornetman16 (talk) 19:20, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

after you finish with your comment and opinion place an 'I' in the tally box or a '<s>I</s>' if your the fifth tally on that set. Since polling is not a substitute for discussion, please explain your reasons, taking into account Wikipedia's naming conventions.
Oppose-- from what I've seen of wrestler articles, one could argue the article should be located at Page Falkinburg, so Dallas Page is definitely more appropriate than Diamond Diamond Dallas Page. JPG-GR 20:31, 8 August 2007 (UTC)- Comment Stone Cold, The Rock, The Undertkaer, and Triple H all have pages that rest at their wrestling names rather than their actual names. Those are just four that I thought of off the top of my head..I'm sure there's plenty more. Darquis 22:38, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
- Comment Good argument against Page Falkinburg, but Handsome Jimmy Valiant is at Jimmy Valiant and Greg The Hammer Valentine at Greg Valentine. And then we have Brutus The Barber Beefcake at Edward Leslie. JPG-GR 04:56, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
- Comment Hell, then we have Batista at Dave Bautista, which is neither his ring name nor his complete real name (that being David). I'm starting to wonder if there even is a naming convention for wrestlers, or if they're just all inconsistent. JPG-GR 05:01, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
- The rule is WP:PW that a Wrestlers page be title what he best known by.--Hornetman16 (talk) 05:42, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

- Support Change -- Make it Diamond Dallas Page or Page Joseph Falkinburg. Mshake3 22:01, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
- Oppose -- In movies, he is credited as simply Dallas Page. If anything, move it to his real name and have Diamond Dallas Page & Dallas Page relocate you. --Endlessdan 12:17, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
- Support Move -- DDP in Ready to Rumble, DDP in WCW, DDP in WWE, DDP in TNA. Seems stupid to have anything else. --SteelersFan UK06 14:50, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

- Comment - while you might be referencing an on screen credit as an actor in Ready to Rumble, onscreen graphics in WCW, WWE, and TNA aren't all that reliable.—Preceding unsigned comment added by JPG-GR (talk • contribs)
- Support -- He's always been known as Diamond Dallas Page. He's very rarely referred to as Dallas Page without the Diamond attached. Eggy49er 16:06, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
- Support as per Mshake3. Either his actual ring name or his real name, not something that's neither. Darquis 22:38, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
- Support per above. Full ring name preferably.-- bulletproof 3:16 22:42, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
- Support it makes total sense. I often wondered why it was Dallas_Page and not Diamond_Dallas_Page. That is his character name in all of the organizations where he's wrestled, except for his brief tour as "Handsome Dallas Page". I support the move. Iadiedee28 23:02, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
- Nuetrality Although I can understand why it would be changed to reflect his in ring name, I can also understand that as a biographical article to a non-fictional person rather than a faux biography to a fictional character (His in-ring personality). Therefore, due to mixed feelings, I'll remain nuetral, although Dallas Page is 8 characters less too type. If anything, it should be changed to reflect his true name, but that is just my personal opinion. ⒺⓋⒾⓁⒼⓄⒽⒶⓃ② talk 07:57, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Dee Snyder (Snider)
DDP is NOT related in any way to this person. They are very good friends but not related. This has been removed a few times from this article. Iadiedee28 00:09, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Redundant?
I was reading the following and it's nothing but redudant.
He started managing in March 1988, where he handled Badd Company (Paul Diamond and Pat Tanaka), a team he lead to the AWA World Tag Team Championship on March 19. During his time in the AWA, Page also managed Col. DeBeers and Madusa. Page served as a manager in 1988 in the American Wrestling Association (AWA), where he managed the tag team of Badd Company, who were often accompanied by a pair of female valets known as the "Diamond Dolls".
In the third paragrah of pages early years it repeats what the second paragraph states. That being he managed Badd Company. I think that section needs to be re-worked. Mr. C.C. 05:37, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
- I hope the rework is acceptable to everyone. Also cleaned up the repetitive use of "Page".--Iadiedee28 08:51, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

- Looks good. Mr. C.C. 08:16, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Statistics section
It appears we have vandals that have nothing better to do than tamper with the statistics in this article. Is there any way to lock the "Statistics" area so that it can not be altered again? By the "Statistics" section I mean the box that contains DDP's photo as well as stats of his career that have all been referenced. I believe the information there is complete and accurate. I've personally undone vandal changes at least three times.
Can the users IP be banned if the area can not be locked. The IP on the past two changes was 124.183.133.79 Iadiedee28 15:09, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Wikiquote link
Is there a way to change the wikiquote link as at the moment it links to a search page with DDP's quotes being the third result down? Probably not a major worry right now (the article needs copy-editing to make it read more like an encyclopedia and less like a fan bio) but its a minor niggle and those are the ones that bother me the most Agent452 23:04, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, there are no quotes by DDP on Wikiquote. There are quotes about him on various other people's articles at Wikiquote. The link in DDP's Wikipedia article to Wikiquote links to a list of all the Wikiquote articles where quotes about DDP can be found, and is therefore links to the correct link on Wikiquote. So until he gets his own quote page, the link currently points to the correct page. Hope this helps! --Naha|(talk) 01:51, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

- Weird. I just did a search for him on WikiQuote and it yielded nothing =/ Thank you for pointing this out. I stand corrected and I will fix this. You are, however, are invited to be bold and fix errors like this yourself when you see them. I mean ..you have a user account and everything! :) --Naha|(talk) 02:05, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
