Diana-Trial

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Diana-Trial is a Group 2 flat horse race in Germany open to three-year-old thoroughbred fillies. It is run over a distance of 2,200 metres (approximately 1 mile 3 furlongs) at Weidenpesch Racecourse, Cologne and takes place annually, presently in June.

It was first run in 1985 at Mülheim as the Las Vegas-Slenderella-Rennen, named after the racehorses Las Vegas and Slenderella, joint winners in 1984 of the Preis der Diana, for which this race serves as a trial. The Diana-Trial, as it became known, was given a new title, the Schwarzgold-Rennen, on transferring to Cologne in 2004. At this time it was promoted from Listed to Group 3 class, attaining Group 2 status in 2006.

Having previously taken place in May, the race was moved to mid June in 2008, while the Preis der Diana was moved from June to early August. The title "Schwarzgold-Rennen" was passed to another race, formerly known as the Kölner Herbst-Stuten-Meile.
