Though Diamond promotes its foods as super-premium, certain lesser quality ingredients such as meat meal, chicken by-product meal, poultry by-product meal, brewers rice, and fish meal are present in a variety of their foods. [1]

On December 20, 2005, Diamond Pet Food discovered aflatoxin in a product manufactured at their facility in Gaston, South Carolina. Diamond recalled all Diamond products which included Low Fat Dog Food, Hi-Energy Dog Food, Maintenance Dog Food, Performance Dog Food, Premium Adult Dog Food, Puppy Food, and Maintenance Cat Food. Diamond also manufactured under the Country Value Pet Food and Professional Pet Food brands causing a recall of Country Value Adult Dog, High Energy Dog, Puppy, Adult Cat Food and Professional Cat Food, Chicken & Rice Senior Dog Food, Reduced Fat Chicken & Rice Dog Food, Adult Dog Food, Large-Breed Puppy Food, Puppy Food, Reduced Fat Cat Food, and Adult Cat Food.
