Diaframma is an italian band, one of the most famous darkwave, gothic Italian acts coming out of Florence during the early 80s along with Litfiba. Diaframma originated from the meeting of punk -though it was then starting its decline-, New Wave and rock.

[edit] History
The leader and founder of Diaframma is the poet, singer, guitarist and author Federico Fiumani. Before Fiumani took the lead, the previous singer was Nicola Vannini, followed by Miro Sassolini, who recorded the first three Diaframma's albums: Siberia, 3 Volte Lacrime and Boxe. From the initial darkwave sound, the style of Diaframma started leaning more towards punk rock because of a specific artistic choice of Federico Fiumani, who consequently took the lead and became the singer of the band. During various changes in the formation of Diaframma throughout the years, several great Italian musicians worked on studio recordings and toured with the band: Daniele Trambusti (drums, already working with Litfiba, Avida, Bella Band and many other historical acts of the 80s and 90s), Alessandro Gerbi (drums, already working with C.C.C.P now C.S.I.), Gianni Cerone (drums), Alessio Riccio (drums), Simone Giuliani, now a member of Lazybatusu and a record producer in New York City under the alias 4MuLA (keyboards and vocals), Alessandro Gherardi (keyboards), Guido Melis (bass), Riccardo "Foggy" Biliotti (bass). Diaframma is probably one of the most controversial and interesting acts in Italy. They reached the status of cult band because of the charismatic leader Federico Fiumani's statements and fierce lyrics. Notoriously, Fiumani more than once turned down very lucrative major labels' deals in order to preserve his artistic independence and maintain Diaframma's integrity, making him a sort of a hero in the underground Italian scene. Diaframma is still a very active cultural phenomenon with its roots in the heart of the 80s and an incredible number of aficionados who have been following the band for more than twenty years.
