Dhu al-Qi'dah (ذو القعدة) is the eleventh month in the Islamic calendar. It can also be known as Thou al-Qi`dah.

The meaning of the word is ‘Master of Truce’ as the pagan Arabs did not conduct war during this month.

The Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar, and months begin when the first crescent of a new moon is sighted. Since the Islamic lunar calendar year is 11 to 12 days shorter than the solar year, Dhu al-Qi'dah migrates throughout the seasons. The estimated start and end dates for Dhu al-Qi'dah are as follows:

  • The first pilgrimage - The return to Makkah for the performance of Umrah by the Prophet and his Companions in 7 A.H.
  • The battle of 'khandaq (trench) or Ahzab' took place in 5 A.H.
  • Truce of Hudaubiyah in 6 A.H.
  • 'Bay'at-e-Rizwaan' (The oath of allegiance named Rizwaan) in 6 A.H.
  • On 01 Dhu al-Qi'dah, Hazrat Masoumeh of Qom sister of Eight Imam Reza was born.
  • On 11 Dhu al-Qi'dah, Eighth Imam Reza was born.
  • On 25 Dhu al-Qi'dah, Jesus was born. (In accordance with Shi'a Islam)
  • On 29 Dhu al-Qi'dah, Ninth Imam Muhammad al-Taqi was killed.
