Talk:Dhingri

[edit] Name
Actually Tingri should be spelled as Dhingri, based on the Tibetan sound. Many of names of places in Tibet are wrongly written. Many of them do not match the original Tibetan names. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 61.2.184.158 (talk • contribs) 19:07, 26 December 2006
- Actually, “Dhingri” should be spelled Tingri according to Guójiā cèhuìjú dìmíng yánjiūsuǒ 国家测绘局地名研究所, Xīzàng dìmíng 西藏地名 / bod ljongs sa ming བོད་ལྗོངས་ས་མིང (Tibetan Place Names), Beijing, Zhōngguó Zàngxué chūbǎnshè 中国藏学出版社 1995, ISBN 7-80057-284-6, and Guójiā cèhuìjú dìmíng yánjiūsuǒ 国家测绘局地名研究所, Zhōngguó dìmínglù 中国地名录 (Gazetteer of China), Beijing, Zhōngguó dìtú chūbǎnshè 中国地图出版社 1997), ISBN 7-5031-1718-4.
- “Tingri” is not IPA at all (the name of the place is pronounced [tʰiŋri]), and it is actually the same as Tingri County.

Well, perhaps we should shift the article so it comes up under Tingri rather than Dhingri? Any comments? Thanks, John Hill 09:22, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
- Dhingri is the correct Tournadre Phonetic spelling. However, I wouldn't object to moving it to Tingri, since this spelling seems to give our readers as good a chance as any to pronounce it correctly, and this spelling also seems to be quite common.—Nat Krause(Talk!·What have I done?) 03:30, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Requested move
Please see above for discussion about a move to "Tingri". Sorry, I started this process the wrong way (cut and paste) and was contacted by Corvus cornix about it. I hope I haven't made too many mistakes which will be difficult to correct. Hopefully, I am doing the right thing now. John Hill 22:46, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
- Moved per discussion above. Also, it seems to match WP:COMMONNAME: Ghits are overwhelmingly in favor of it. Duja► 08:42, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
