[edit] Re: EvBoard.com & EvThreads.com

Hey buddy,

Thanks for that valuable bit of information. We should try to work it into the article, and to do that we need some kind of source that says that Amy Lee owns the forum, perferraby some kind of media outlet. Does anything come to mind?

Haha, great user page. I especially like the bit about "poorly documented human qualities". Made me chuckle. =)

Thanks again for the info, —Lantoka ( talk | contrib) 20:39, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

In reference to EvThreads, I was under the impression that, while Lee owned the board, it was considered simply a fan board, just as EvBoard was (aka, not official). -- Huntster T@C 17:44, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

If we're using the word 'official' in the sense that EvThreads is authorized and owned by Amy Lee, professionally known as Evanescence, then yes, it's official. However, if that does not meet the Wikipedia criteria for 'official', I've got no dog in the fight. I was merely copying the words 'Official Evanescence Message Board' as it was already listed on the Wikipedia pages for Terry Balsamo, Rocky Gray, John LeCompt, and Tim McCord. I'd be fine if you prefer the word 'official' be removed. Thanks for keeping an eye on things. --DhammaSeeker 18:12, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
Not intending to sound harsh, just offering a technical analysis of the situation:
Just because it is authorized and owned by Lee, does not constitute an endorsement by the band, and certainly not the record label. Neither entity has, that I'm aware of, granted it the status of "official". For that reason, I'd prefer that link be removed from all articles, because irregardless of the fact that Lee is present, it is still a fansite, and leaving it sets a dangerous precedent for other fansites to be added, which is definitely a no-no per policy. Conversely, EvClub deserves every mention, because it is endorsed by all applicable parties. -- Huntster T@C 19:45, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
Would the fact that EvThreads is linked from http://evanescence.com/ hold any value? It's under the 'Community' menu item. --DhammaSeeker 19:36, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
mmm, That's tricky, I hadn't noticed that before. I'd still be somewhat wary of including it at this point in time...it would be best for all if some official statement could be made on the issue (aka, yes, this is an official site; no, it's still considered a fansite). I won't have a problem with it now, though I still worry about the rampant inclusion of other fansites. -- Huntster T • @ • C 20:32, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

As an aside, given that several Amy quotes here are referenced from EvThreads (which is okay, given her words constitute a primary source/document), are there any policies over there regarding archiving her posts elsewhere as a just-in-case-the-board-goes-away thing? -- Huntster T@C 19:50, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

No policy in place right now, but I could certainly get into the habit of archiving them off site. --DhammaSeeker 19:36, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
That would be fantastic. It is a shame that http://web.archive.org/ doesn't seem to want to archive the particular posts; that would have been an ideal solution. -- Huntster T • @ • C 20:32, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
