Talk:Dexter Park (Chicago)

[edit] race track
Track distance is something we should have.
Visiting for another purpose I checked the mile-record reference. A world's record for the mile in 1866 was 2:31? [1] Another source says "In 1867, a gelding named Dexter trotted the mile in 2 minutes 19 seconds."[2] That is a big improvement.
Anyway, Dexter being a trotter, I suppose Dexter Park was for harness racing. Baseball was played there (within the infield? I suppose an improved track). So maybe it hosted both thoroughbred and harness races?
Yet another says that thoroughbred racing was illegal in many places (no list). --P64 21:08, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] map
This article and others on sporting venues of the mid/late 19th century would benefit from a map of Chicago, preferably an old map of downtown-plua, lacking many suburbs. --P64 21:26, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
