[edit] Celtic placenames in Devon?

Hi there - good to see someone else taking an interest in Devon. But, can you suggest some actual examples of Celtic placenames in the county? If there are any, they are so heavily Saxonised that they aren't easily recognisable, and I'd want a bit of persuading that there were more than in any other English county. Unless they are pretty obvious, we shouldn't be putting them up in the top of the page. seglea 04:43, 16 Jan 2004 (UTC) (normally of Exeter, but working in the US this year).

Seglea, There are a number of sites which reference Celtic placenames in Devon and I attach one. I have seen (but do not have to hand) information which shows the relative frequency of those names as compared to points firther east. One example is the "tre" prefix - which occurs in at least 40 Devon placenames. Of couse Cornwall has an even higher proportion http://members.fortunecity.com/gerdewnansek/placenames.html Dewnans 03:10, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikiproject Devon

Hi, Paul - just mentioning wikiproject Devon as you aren't a member. It's still pretty small, but knew little bits are being added all the time, and as you are involved in a lot of Devon-related stuff it wouldn't be right for you not to be on the list. As for any controversies - nothing will get resolved until people get together. Cheers! Stevebritgimp 17:14, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
