[edit] Articles / omnibus editions

Does it make sense to have articles on omnibus releases, rather than on individual novels - Heavy Time and Hellburner - or whole series or settings - "The Company Wars" or "Alliance/Union universe"? -- Danny Yee 07:13, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

I think in some cases the omnibus is better, as I don't think we could write something for (or that it would merit) an article for each of the books, but as a whole, you could write a quality article for this Omnibus. As for the settings, Alliance/Union Universe, yes. The Company Wars? I don't know. Bo-Lingua 14:32, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

The problem with the omnibus is that someone reading Heavy Time as a separate novel won't think to look up Devil to the Belt - and that article isn't even linked to from C.J. Cherryh! Also, what happens when different combinations of novels end up published in different omnibuses by different publishers? Individual novel titles seem more stable, and more fundamental. -- Danny Yee 07:46, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

Heavy Time and Hellburner both exist as redirects to Devil to the Belt. The reason you're not seeing these links in C.J. Cherryh is because they are in C. J. Cherryh bibliography. Yes, a novel could end up in more than one omnibus, but that fact would be made clear in the respective omnibus articles. See also Talk:C. J. I could see The Company Wars as either a section in the Alliance-Union universe article, or as its own article, depending on how much detail you wanted to put into it. One to three paragraphs, probably a section in the A-U artcle. More than that, possibly gets its own. Fairsing 17:09, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
