From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] Dante's Sword
Made a minor edit, Dante's sword was listed as "The Rebellion." Check the game guides for both DMC3 and DMC4 as reference that the sword is simply named: "Rebellion."
[edit] "Aired Early"
First episode "Mission 01: Devil May Cry" aired on TV WOWWOW a week earlier than projected. You can find the episode on youtube to confirm.
[edit] Ending Theme
Anyone notice that ending theme to EP3 and EP8 have slightly different instrumental and lyrics. Is this just trivia?
[edit] "Seiyu?"
It might be the correct term in Japanese, but this is the English language Wikipedia. Unless a reader is a medium-to-hardcore anime fan they aren't going to know what that word means, and they shouldn't have to know. We should use the English term "voice actor," and that's what I'll change it to. --Boradis 02:07, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
- Don't we usually use seiyu to describe the Japanese voice actors and 'voice actor' to describe dubs with anime? I'm fairly certain that's what's done on the other anime pages. Is "Voiced by" fair middle ground? Chavi904 08:16, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
-
- It's mainly anime fans that visit anime articles I'm sure they know what "seiyu" mean, besides most other articles use "seiyu". -- David13579 00:30, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
-
-
- Regardless of who "mainly" visits anime articles, the correct term in English is the term that should be used. There is no reason to use the Japanese term simply because it's an anime title. --Boradis 00:12, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
-
-
-
-
- Then change all anime articles. I wasn't trying to say "seiyu" is right the right term because anime fans read the articles, it is the right term because it has been used by most articles so far besides there's an articles explaining what "seiyu" means. --David13579 00:30, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Canonicity
Does anyone know how canonical the anime is and where it is placed in the games timeline? Because the appearance of both Lady and Trish suggests that it takes place after the original DMC but before DMC2, since Trish is absent in the latter, but then again, so is Lady in the former... --Koveras ☭ 18:23, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
- Trish is present in DMC2 as a secret character, and as she is never actualy killed during the games, absent doenst mean she cant be around. its probably set after all the games. Mloren 13:12, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
So far, there are no elements in the anime that contradicts the the game's canon. Maybe Patty staying at the DMC shop, but we'll have to wait 'til the end to know what's gonna be of her.--Alexlayer 01:37, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
-
- I don't think Patty stays at DMC... more like she visits it a lot. She comes and goes at will, and mostly is only there when Dante is there. She usually calls out, "Dante are you here" when she enters... as if she's a guest (letting herself in of course).
In any case, I put up a contradict tag. Does it take place after the third game, or after the first? Brittany Ka 09:56, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

-
- As far as I've seen the timeline proceeds as follows: (1)Manga concerning the events up to the start of DMC3. (2)DMC3. (3)DMC1. (4)Ok.. now here it gets a bit tricky. Because we don't know the ending of the anime yet, it could be that the anime is timed between DMC1 and DMC2. It could ALSO be that the anime is timed after DMC2, maybe even after DMC4! (although I don't think the latter is true). It could also be a prologue for DMC4, like the manga was for DMC3. In any case, the anime is timed after DMC1, so I don't think the contradict tag is in place. And with this I think DMC2 is not part of the main storyarc (DMC3 -> DMC1 -> DMC4?? ), but just a parallel story, just like big anime series have their movies which don't concern about the main storyarc. Seeing that Trish and Lady re-appear in events involving the story around Sparda. (IMHO in DMC2 Sparda is only used as connection to make it a 'DMC-game', because the plot of the story doesn't involve Sparda and his sealing of the demon world like the other stories do). —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 77.249.42.177 (talk) 12:49, August 23, 2007 (UTC)

- DMC3 shows the events prior to DMC1, so the anime series is indeed after DMC1 & DMC3, while before DMC2. It is between DMC1 and the anime that Dante undergoes a personality change, from extremely cocky and arrogant in DMC1&3, to the strong-yet-silent type in the anime and DMC2. Also notice that at the end of the third game (the events before DMC1), Dante first acquires the sword [can't remember name] that he begins the first game with, and if during the credits of DMC3 you manage to defeat 100 demons, a secret ending is shown where Vergil makes ready to battle with Mundus, who was eventually defeated by Dante in DMC1. There are a number of other facts which verify the point that DMC3 is the beginning of the story, then DMC1, then the anime. Hope this helps. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.125.25.205 (talk) 09:00, August 24, 2007 (UTC)

- Adding to the comment about Patty living with Dante: this is false. Episode 10 reveals Patty still lives at the Orphanage, thanks to her making a comment stating as such. Nargrakhan 02:49, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

- Further adding to whether Patty lives with Dante or not, Dante says to Patty in ep 11 "There now. I will take you home. Come to my office tomorrow as usual." like previous posts this would suggest that she just visits Dante a lot but lives elsewhere such as the orphanage. Octane3k 03:10, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

Canon wise, nothing really contradicts the series. Also, Trish's appearence in DMC2 can't really be considered canon since she's a secret character and has no story. And still has the Sparda. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Heat Guy M (talk • contribs) 08:45, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
I believe the creators themselves have stated that this game fits in canonically after DMC1, before DMC4. So, I see no reason to debate over it... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.188.25.23 (talk) 07:13, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] List of characters
As Boradis' suggestion, I'm moving our discussion here, so that everyone can participate.
I'd like to start a List of characters in Devil May Cry anime with all characters, including the "threats-of-the-week", because a) the plot of the series centers on these weekly threats and their back-stories (for the most part) and b) it's common to have minor characters listed in an extra and since the anime only has 6 main/recurring characters, all others are by definition "minor ones".
I'd like to particularly stress the notability of Baal and Asmodeus (for the third time, btw, if you visit the history and the talk page of the DMC character list): they make a parallel to Dante and Vergil and contribute significantly to Sparda's biography, as other sources tell very little about his past in the demon world. There is also the fact that their names are yet another allusion to Judeo-Christian tradition in the franchise, and lastly, they are voiced by two very prominent seiyus. Similar rationale can be given to other characters, for example, "threat" guy in episode 3 (thanks for bringing that up, Boradis).
However, Boradis maintains that episodic characters are not notable enough to have them listed. My argument against it is that it depends on the context: while they are certainly not notable in the context of the whole franchise (except Baal and Modeus due to their explicit connection to Sparda), they are enough so for the anime. I'd like to hear other's opinions and eventually have a consensus on the issue. --Koveras ☭ 08:56, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
- I diagree that the "threats of the week" deserve an entry, most of these characters only appear once and then disappear (or are sliced depending the case), they are just not notable enough, a separate page for them would mostly be considered fancruft, now I don't see a reason the notable ones can't be included in the main characters page. - Caribbean~H.Q. 10:18, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
-
-
- I think everyone here already agrees that the notable ones should be included. What is needed in this case is someone besides Koveras and I who will look at the series and these characters and weigh in on whether or not they are notable. Here's my take on what makes a (non-core) character notable; appearing in more than one episode in a speaking role with new lines (not just as an image or in a flashback); being influential in their actions to one of the core characters by having an effect on that character's later behavior. To my mind, the only character that fits these criteria and hasn't been included yet is Patty's mom. --Boradis 20:53, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

-
- Every episode has a direct connection to the game continuity simply by being DMC. And even having a close connection to Sparda isn't enough to be truly notable. Notice the lack of a character write up for Phantom? Phantom has just about as many lines and as much screen time as these two characters, was an actual rival of Sparda (not just one of his pupils), and actually gave Dante a hard time -- heck, Phantom even appears in the anime's opening credits! And yet Phantom is not notable because he's just a threat-of-the-mission, not someone who influences Dante's later actions. The two characters you want to add are far less noteworthy in the back story of Sparda than Phantom is even if you consider the anime's continuity to be game canon, which I don't. Nonetheless, we need someone who's seen the episode to comment.--Boradis 19:17, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

- And with CHQ not voting one way or another on the notability of these particular two characters, we're at an impasse. Let's just wait a while longer. --Boradis 02:16, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
- Personally, I would say that the two are semi-notable, if only that they are important in Sparda's past.KrytenKoro 06:31, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

- More important canonically than Phantom or Beowulf? Both of those boss monsters had personal grudges with Sparda and gave Dante a hard time, unlike these two creampuffs. Heck, they were less of a threat than DMC1 marionettes. --Boradis 20:06, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Dante's debt for Lady
- It says that it seems that Dante is in debt for Lady, but i think that he owes her for nothing else but Kalinna Ann she let him borrow in DMC3... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.22.191.4 (talk) 19:13, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
Dante returned it at the end of DMC3. "No late charges, I hope". <WHEE, THIS WAS POSTED BY-Edgeboy Max (talk) 19:03, 17 November 2007 (UTC)-WHEE!>

- Evidently Dante is a poor gambler, and he keeps owing her money due to that: "double or nothing" type stuff. Even Patty - who is proven to be a VERY talented gambler despite her age - has put him in debt. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nargrakhan (talk • contribs) 15:27, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] American Voice Actor
Just felt I should add this in before anyone goes "speculative" trigger happy with editing my edit out! ^_^ http://www.advfilms.com/latest-news/devil-may-cry-ign-com/dvd-reviews.aspx?newsid471=6960 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.188.25.23 (talk) 20:36, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
- Just so you know, calling fellow Wikipedians "too damn stupid" and posting anonymously does not exactly give your edits an air of credibility, nor garner you much respect. The page you linked does say "that the same voice actor in the new game is also playing Dante in the anime," though it doesn't mention Langdon by name. You might want to note that sort of thing when flaming other fans who only want these pages to be accurate. You might also try to learn how to properly add a cite, and learn how to sign your own posts so the robot doesn't have to come and fix it for you. If you learn to do these simple things, then your righteous indignation will have much more force. Happy holidays! --Boradis (talk) 12:54, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Lady as the relative of the priestess Sparda sacrificed?

[edit] Spoilers
I've noticed that there are several spoilers, specifically in the character section, that aren't really necessary to the character's description, and pretty much remove all enjoyment of the twists in the last two episodes. I suggest that the pertaining parts of the character's description be removed (the fact that Patty is a descendant of a powerful magician, and that Sid obtains the power of Abigail and is defeated by Dante), or at the very least a spoiler warning is put at the top. I know this article would of really annoyed me if I hadn't read it after watching the anime.—Preceding unsigned comment added by D43dr34m3r (talk • contribs)
