Deva Chat is an independent internet forum for fans of Chester City F.C., an English football team. Deva Chat was launched on the evening of April 24, 2000, and has since been run independently of the club or any connected association. The forum has become established as the most popular fan site for the club, and has even spawned a football team of its own, Deva Chat FC.
[edit] Site history
Despite its popularity, Deva Chat has also attracted considerable criticism over the last six years, including accusations of over-zealous moderation and of having leanings towards a given 'side'. This was especially true during the 'Terry Smith years'. Terry Smith was a former owner of the club and during his reign the club underwent some of the most traumatic years in its history. Deva Chat played a central role as a method by which supporters could organise ideas and opinions and it was during this time that criticism was sometimes aimed at Deva Chat, either for being too much on the side of the club, or for being too strongly on the side of the supporters. It was also around this time that the internet forum was threatened with legal action from various parties on no less than three occasions.
Despite its ups and downs, and occasional changes of format, the forum has continued functioning and performing an important role for the supporters of Chester City Football Club all over the world. As of April 2007 the forum has 1687 active members (logged on within the last 12 months), including those from other teams such as local rivals Wrexham, and new members join everyday.
