The Detroit Independent is the largest circulating independent newspaper in the metro Detroit area. Compared to the two dailies, the Detroit Free Press and the Detroit News, the Detroit Independent is a lifestyle publication centering on Sports, music, movies, television and technology. Average circulation for the Detroit Independent is over 100,000 weekly. Average readership is over 700,000 bi-weekly.[1]
The Detroit Independent won 12 awards from the Michigan Press Association in 2006. The paper also won awards in 2005 and 2004.
