[edit] History
The event was founded by the Rev. Eric Delve, and Christian musician, Russ Hughes. Hughes left the organisation in 2006.[citation needed]
The organisation has created several offshoot organisations, including All Saints Praise and Eurofire. All Saints Praise has been held on Halloween at Canterbury Cathedral since 2000 and consists of singing and a speaker, often Mr Delve.[citation needed]
Over the years Detling has attracted many well known Christian speakers like Dr. RT Kendall, Rev. Joel Edwards and J John.[citation needed]
The conference tries to attract young people with a small youth event on the same site, but many young people are attracted to more popular, dedicated youth events, such as Soul Survivor.
[edit] The Event
The event consists of music, seminars and keynote speakers. There are also groups for children of all ages, a feature considered to be one of the strong points of the event, why families in particular are attracted to Detling.
Late night music events and comedy are also featured, and although many choose to visit daily, there is provision for tents and caravans on the site.
Each year's event has a different name to reflect its theme. These have included:
- The Spirit and the Bride
- Your Kingdom Come
The 2008 conference will be called 'After God's Own Heart'
[edit] Music
Music has always been an important part of Detling, and many new songs came from the conference, several albums have been released, both studio recordings and live event recordings, including:[citation needed]
- Let Every Step We Take (Live)
- Holy Mountain
- For The Sake of the Lost
- Sufficient
- Rhythms of Grace (Live)
Two albums of live 'ministry' music have also been released from the River Event which takes place at Detling, they were:
- The River
- Return to the River
Many well known worship leaders have played at Detling since its inception, however the main worship leaders were Russ Hughes, Simon Goodall and Helen Gallagher. Both Russ Hughes and Simon Goodall have subsequently departed.
[edit] Charity
The event is jointly organised by a UK Limited Company - Revival Fire Conferences Ltd - and a Registered UK Charity, The Spirit and the Bride Trust. The main aims of the charity are to 'make grants to other organisations'.
Every year the event raises money for charity, normally in excess of £100,000. Each year, appeals are made for money to underwrite the cost of the event, to supplement that raised from attendance fees.[citation needed]
[edit] Future
The conference saw large growth in the early years and many expected it to be one of the significant Christian conferences similar to events like New Wine, Spring Harvest and Kingdom Faith, however attendance is around 1500.[citation needed]
An event is taking place in 2008 and dates are given on the Detling website for 2009 and 2010.
