Detlef Karsten (1958 Hannover) is a German contemporary artist.

[edit] Biography
Detlef Karsten studied arts and art history at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz from 1979 until 1985. Then he continued his studies in painting at the Städelschule from 1985 to 1988 in Frankfurt Main. After several art performances, 'Performance - and art activities in collaboration with other artists and organizations, in which he connected various kinds of art together, the artistical view moved more to the paintings and sculptures. In the year 1988 he began his work as a freelance illustrator in Wiesbaden.
After Karsten has worked at the art studio in Wiesbaden, he moved in the 1990s of the last century, out on to the Mediterranean Island of Ibiza. Here, in collaboration with the artist Jutta Gruhlke other works took place. In the year 2000 Karsten opened his studio then on Ibiza in an old Magacine, which was formerly used as a shop of goods.
Since the beginning of the year 2007 he lives and works in the small town Verl near Guetersloh in North Rhine-Westphalia.
