[edit] Speedy Deletions

Hi, Destin! I've noticed that you've been trying to improve Wikipedia by nominating articles for speedy deletion. However, the reasons that you're using do not match the official policies regarding nominating an article for SD. I don't disagree with the articles you've nominated--many of them do deserve deletion--but your reasons for deleting them aren't official WP policy. Please review the SD policies, and make use of the SD templates when nominating an article. Thanks! -- Merope 15:45, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy Deletions

Thanks for your close attention to under-detailed sites, but I don't think you can call for the deletion of a site within the first ten minutes for its creation! Thanks! -Srsrsr 16:06, 14 August 2006 (UTC) --I see you really wanted that page gone. Any reasonable explanation? -Srsrsr 17:25, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] meaning of tags

hi destin, you placed the tags {{wikify}} and {{cleanup}} to Masteria, which i created earlier this day. i'd really like to know:

  • what do you want to wikify?
there is not one word where wikifying makes sense that is *not* wikified.
  • what do you want to clean up?
the article consists of a taxobox, two very short paragraphs, and a species list. i have no idea at all how this could be cleaned up.

please explain :) cheers --Sarefo 22:17, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Star Instruments and Star instruments

You don't want to create two separate articles, because down the road someone may update one, and not the other. Since it's a proper (corporate) name, the one with the capital I should be the primary one. I've changed the other one so it simply redirects. That way, you only need to maintain one article, not two. Fan-1967 21:42, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Proposed Deletion of 64Digits and warning of me

Well, 64digits was in the list of requested articles. Also, I did not create that website. Therefore, I had a perfect right to create the stub, and you should do your research before jumping to conclusions and accusing me of self-promotion. Thank you.

[edit] Re: Sugarwood

No, I'm not an admin. I thought that users were allowed to post "temporarily blocked" tags. I'm a little confused on the whole subject. If you could tell me, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks, Destin 18:21, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

OK, all friends here. No, only admins have the power to block users, and therefore only admins should post block notices. The posting of such a block does not of itself block the user, and if he finds a block notice but also finds that he can still edit (which he would) this undermines the whole vandal-warning structure. Certainly we welcome anyone who is interested in maintaining the integrity of our encyclopedia, and thank you for your efforts. The correct approach, under wiki rules, is to post four warnings, of increasing levels of firmness. They are described as "general note", "caution", "warning" and "final warning". You will find the list at WP:TT. If a vandal persists after receiving four warnings, and if an Admin does not appear spontaneously, you seek admin help at WP:AIV. The usual admin response time is less than five minutes - often much less. Incidentally, an admin has, at my request, blocked your friend. I am not myself an admin either. Any more advice you need, please feel free to ask me. If I don't know the answer, I will know someone who does. Happy wikying.--Anthony.bradbury 18:35, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
I forgot to warn you that WP:TT is 29 pages long!--Anthony.bradbury 18:41, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
Thank you! I thought it worked something like that. Destin 19:00, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sugarwood

Hi there; I notice that you are not signing your name to vandal warnings sent to this editor. I also notice that you have told him he is temporarily blocked. Please forgive me for asking, but your userpage does not say; are you an admin? Because if not, telling a user that you are will get you blocked, however much the other user may deserve the penalty--Anthony.bradbury 17:59, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

It is also true that Wiki policy, broadly speaking, requires four warnings to be delivered before a block is imposed (there are exceptions).--Anthony.bradbury 18:03, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:NoAdware.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:NoAdware.JPG. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Zonealarm6.JPG)

Thanks for uploading Image:Zonealarm6.JPG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BigDT 15:40, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Joyce Piven

Hi. I'm assuming you just tagged this in error but I'm asking that you lift the speedy deletion tag from Joyce Piven. In the stub article I included her involvement in the Compass Players (all of which have wikipedia articles), her teaching of celebrities John Cusack, Jeremy Piven, and others, and her role as the Artistic Director of Piven Theatre Workshop which of course also has an article. Her husband who is just as notable also has an article.--Twintone 16:26, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Shady Rest Hotel

The article Shady Rest Hotel may qualify for a speedy under other criteria (no context, for instance), but the subject is legitimate (I'm old enough to have watched the show) and it is not spam. It would be hard to have spam for a business that doesn't exist in real life. Let this article sit for a while and let the author develop it. It may need to be merged into the main show article later. Realkyhick 16:45, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

That'll get you every time. :-) Realkyhick 03:21, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] HipHopDX.com

This page was created in response to it being placed top of the list at Wikipedia:Most wanted articles. It is linked to by hundreds of pages. I know very little about it, but this suggests to me that the article should stay. Jdcooper 16:52, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

I saw the page and it did appear to be have the qualities of spam. I belive with a rewrite the article could not be mistaked for spam. Toa Zach 20:02, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Commercial use of Image:Picture1uq9.png

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Picture1uq9.png, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Picture1uq9.png has a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission, which was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19 or is not used in any articles (CSD I3). While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, this is in fact not the case[1][2]. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial. See our non-free content guidelines for more more information.

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. This bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Image:Picture1uq9.png itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. If you have any questions about what to do next or why your image was nominated for speedy deletion please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thanks. CSDWarnBot 01:04, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image source problem with Image:Vmwareunity.png

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Vmwareunity.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 23:19, 3 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Jusjih 23:19, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I have nominated Mac OS 11 for deletion. It is in violation of WP:CRYSTAL, as Apple has not announced any plans for an OS 11 or Os XI. Mac OS X could indeed continue on as Mac Os X 11.0 or even Mac OS X 10.10. ANDROS1337 22:22, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion of Image:1375444600 fb279416ae.jpg

A tag has been placed on Image:1375444600 fb279416ae.jpg, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia per CSD g12.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the article and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the page's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. TCC (talk) (contribs) 07:05, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Acceleratorsleave.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Acceleratorsleave.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:59, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:L 864dfaa7825ec6818057f7f1571cfaaa.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:L 864dfaa7825ec6818057f7f1571cfaaa.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ρх₥α 23:12, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion of Microslop

Please refrain from introducing inappropriate pages such as Microslop, to Wikipedia. Doing so is not in accordance with our policies. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. meshach 20:24, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Image.x3.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Image.x3.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.
