[edit] Wikipedia Philosophy

I consider myself a splittist, and I lean eventualist, but I can understand and respect the push for Immediatism.

[edit] Background

In general, I am interested in Religion, Philosophy, Politics, and Science - I love Astrophysics (don't know much about it, but love to read about it). I also love to watch movies, and run a blog where I review movies that have recently come out on video. I love music, and play my guitar on a nearly daily basis. Maybe one day I will get something up on Amie Street so you can hear it. Of course, like any good geek, I dig LOTR, Star Wars, The Matrix, computer programming (as a hobby), Ender's Game, Lost, XKCD, most science fiction, and anything to do with the Internet, which I believe is one of the greatest inventions of mankind with its revolutionary ability to provide access to information and knowledge to everyone who touches it. Which by the way is also a reason why I love Wikipedia. I genuinely get a kick out of keeping information up to date and accurate because I feel like I am contributing to a set of human knowledge that people refer to. I know that assertion is disputed by many Wikipedians, but at least thats how I feel about it now, and it makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

I have been a Mormon my entire life (though no longer practicing) and love delving into Mormon history, so I am usually editing any articles that have to do with Mormonism. However, to state my POV clearly, after reading a great deal on the history and origins of the LDS church, as well as some of the current research by FARMS and mainstream archaeologists, historians, linguists, and Egyptologists, I am highly suspect of the claims of the LDS church. As such my edits regarding Mormon topics are usually an effort to bring NPOV to the articles - since a lot Mormon articles have what I perceive to be a heavily sympathetic POV.

By day I work for one of the Big 4 accounting firms as an Information Systems Auditor. I have experience auditing for Sarbanes Oxley and PCI DSS compliance, and hold a CISA certification. As such, I pop into those articles from time to time to make sure there has been no vandalism or blantant POV edits.

[edit] Current Tasks/Projects

This user is a member of the Latter Day Saint movement WikiProject
Articles that I watch closely, and contribute to regularly:
Book of Abraham - Kirtland Egyptian Papers - Joseph Smith Papyri - Criticism of Mormonism - Historicity of the Book of Mormon - Origin of the Book of Mormon - Linguistics and the Book of Mormon - Archaeology and the Book of Mormon - Genetics and the Book of Mormon - Plan of Salvation
High Priority Current Tasks
  1. Create an article for the Anthon Transcript and add images and references to the articles on the Book of Mormon and Reformed Egyptian
  2. Add critical perspective to Linguistics and the Book of Mormon from information in Studies of the Book of Mormon, and articles by Richard Packham.
  3. There are some interesting quotes by Egyptologist Ritner in the IRR film, The Lost Book of Abraham - these quotes could be well used in the Book of Abraham article.
  4. Add apologetic perspective to Book of Abraham based on FARMS articles and writings of Hugh Nibley
  5. Clean up Joseph Smith Papyri and Kirtland Egyptian Papers articles
    1. Add section in Joseph Smith Papyri regarding the Church Historian's Fragment, and create a separate article for it as well.
Low Priority Current Tasks
  1. Consolidating disparate articles on Mormon topics:
    1. Merge: Celestial kingdom, Terrestrial kingdom, Telestial kingdom to Degrees of glory - complete (I am reconsidering this merge though, wonder if we should split it out again, I will think about that...
    2. Merge: If You Could Hie to Kolob to Kolob - complete
    3. Merge: Persons in the Book of Mormon to List of Book of Mormon people - complete
    4. Merge: Egyptian names in the Book of Mormon to Linguistics and the Book of Mormon#Egyptian names - complete
    5. Merge: Chiasmus in the Book of Mormon to Linguistics and the Book of Mormon#Chiasmus - complete
    6. Merge: Mormonism and history to History of the Latter Day Saint movement - open
    7. Merge: Mormon wedding open house to Wedding#LDS customs - open
    8. Merge: List of fictional Pharaohs to Pharoah - complete
    9. Merge: Archaeology and the Book of Mormon#Genetic studies to Genetics and the Book of Mormon - complete
    10. Merge: Angel Moroni to Moroni (prophet) - proposal withdrawn
    11. Merge: -ihah to Linguistics and the Book of Mormon#Hebrew names - complete
    12. Merge: Horses in the Book of Mormon to Archaeology and the Book of Mormon#Horses -open
    13. Merge: Technology and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
    14. Merge: Animals in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

[edit] Articles I have created

Articles I am proud of: Kirtland Egyptian Papers - Joseph Smith Papyri - Minor articles: Joseph Smith and the Origins of the Book of Mormon (a book, not a topic) - About two dozen articles for individual minor figures in the Book of Mormon, see List of Book of Mormon people

[edit] Translation

I also will dip into the list of requested articles for translation from Spanish to English from time to time. Maybe when I am a little braver, I will try an English to Spanish translation.

Recently, I translated the following article from Spanish: Calaway H. Dodson
