Introduction
Desmond Burns is Chartered Mechanical Engineer and Advisor / Researcher on Rapid Prototyping and Rapid Manufacturing. Desmond is a specialist in the field of Automation systems for the automotive industry. Desmond is currently working in South Australia having moved there in 2005 from the United Kingdom to take up an engineering position for the automotive tier one supplier Futuris Automotive. Desmond is a member of the International Association of Engineers (IAENG) and is heavily involved in research into future manufacturing methods.
Currently Desmond is working through some high level Patents in conjunction with Media:De Montfort University Leicester United Kingdom for his recently awarded Rapid Manufacturing Systems.
Desmonds thesis in Rapid Manufacturing System for plastic components was awarded in 2005 with the Media:Rhodes Masters first prize for technical innovation and its ability to "change the future of industry". It is not the first time Desmond has picked up an award in 1997 he was awarded the Audi Innovation Prize by the Audi design foundation in its inaugural year for his inovative work on Aluminum car body assembly methods. Again in 1999 he was presented with a high achievement award in Product design by Honda for his design involvement on the Honda Civic door handle project with tier one supplier collins & Aikman.
