Does anyone have information indicating that Dr. E.L. Kersten is real? I still have my doubts 62.178.193.144 20:13, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

He might be real... apparently, he was a speaker at this conference: http://labautomation.org/LA/LA06/plenary.php --Code65536 16:27, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Successories

Someone should compare Despair, Inc. to Successories - http://www.successories.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/home.home/successories_country/USA/home.cfm

which is the company that Despair, Inc. is principally parodying

The link there may be too vague since Despair Inc. could be seen as a parody against the whole culture of radical motivation and politically correct work ethics. Minglex 19:02, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

Although Despair, Inc. can be seen as a parody against the whole culture, the link between Despair and Successories is obvious. Compare Despair's Demotivators and Successories' Corporate Impressions products and Partition Editions (11x14) products. The similarity just can't be coincidental. –Peter J. Acklam 11:15, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
The problem is that making the comparison ourselves would be original research, so if you want to include the comparison you'll have to find a source to cite. Koweja 14:04, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
Or, you could just put some of their products side-by-side on the page and let the reader decide if it's just a coincidence that they look exactly alike. Wahkeenah 14:17, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Site Link

Does anyone know why Despair's website is now run by Yahoo and is password protected?? I tried to access the site today only to be prompted by a user authentication window, when I canceled, I was taken to a Yahoo! 401 error page! http://despair.com Nodono01 04:02, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

Probably just a temporary server problem. Koweja 05:48, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

This was a temporary "blackout" wherein existing customers were given a password to enter the site, and could purchase items at discounted prices. After the short blackout, they jacked the prices back up (their own words), and re-opened the site to all you still-motivated people.

Despair must be running another sale or else the "blackout" apparently isn't all that temporary. I tried to access the web site today (1 April 2008) and encountered the same situation, a Yahoo store login pop-up with no way to get to the site to register as a subscriber. A couple of the Despair blog pages can be accessed, but there is no "Contact Us" link on the web pages that are accessible and the "Subscribe" link also generates the same login pop-up. Seems you need a user name and password in order to obtain an user name and password. The ultimate Catch-22.

[edit] 4chan?

Should we make a mention about how 4Chan adopted the demotivator, and basically turned it into the most popular meme on /b/?Stormfin 02:31, 23 October 2007 (UTC) - you should never mention that you ever visited 4chan... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.48.34.150 (talk) 15:24, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
