The red and white pieces are monsters controlled by the Overlord. The red pieces are "Master" monsters. The grey pieces represent heroes controlled by the other players. Scattered about the play area are other tokens and cards used in the game. The game's custom dice are also shown near the front. In the center of the hallways is a stock of unused red hearts which are used to track health, and an unused stock of yellow water droplet shapes which track stamina. Visible in the background are cards giving the statistics of the monsters. This scene is area 3 out of 5 of "Quest 3: Problems of Life and Death" in the original Descent: Journeys in the Dark game.
