Destour

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Destour is a Tunisian political party, founded in 1920, of which the goal is to liberate Tunisia from the Protectorat français en Tunisie (French protectorate in Tunisia).

The term Destour is usually translated as constitutional. It is probably of Turkish origin, as there is no trace of this word in the Arabic spoken during the pre-Islamic period, nor in the Quran or hadiths, nor in the Arabic language literature during the period preceding the Ottoman Empire, during which this word began to be used in Egypt.
