The Design and Technology Academy, nicknamed DATA, is located on the campus of Theodore Roosevelt High School in the North East Independent School District in San Antonio, Texas. It opened in the fall semester of 1999 for the 1999-2000 school year (with its first graduating class in 2002, and first full-four year graduating class in 2003). DATA is a magnet school that specializes in engineering, architecture, web/graphic design, programming and multimedia.
The original school colors were beige, blue, and white, but as stated by Dr. Flieger (at a later date), the first director of DATA, the official school colors are now black, silver, and white.
[edit] Learning Overview for DATA Students
At the Design and Technology Academy, located on the newly renovated Roosevelt High School campus, any 8th or 9th grade student may apply, with the freshman class each year selected by lottery, producing a diverse student body. Students are provided a college preparatory education within the context of a "school within a school." All students may participate in any extracurricular activity and are encouraged to do so, in that extra curricular activities assist in creating a well rounded individual. 120 hours of community service, a 120 hour career-exploration internship, and a guided senior research and production project are just some of the expectations of a DATA graduate.
[edit] Extracurricular Course Listings
Listed below are the courses DATA requires you to take in order to be a DATA student. While there are some possible exceptions (i.e. Atheltics classes may interfere with scheduling), most DATA students are required to take these and they are the learning basis for the following years. The names inside the parentheses are the common name(s) of the class.

OOP is a programming class which teaches the basics of Java, Javascript, C++, BASIC, and more in-depth HTML. Through the 2nd semester the class focuses on just one of those languages (which language they will be learning is chosen by a majority class vote and a teacher vote) by using the language to complete various projects, such as a TAKS study program.
