Desfina (Greek: Δεσφίνα) is a Greek town and a municipality located in the southern part of the prefecture of Phokida with population 2,431 residents. It is found in foot of mountain Kirfis in altitude 680m. and it occupies an extent of 200.000 str. roughly which is extended up to the Corinthian Gulf. Desfina is a graphic city built amphitheatrically and is located about 200 kilometres of Athens, 35 roughly kilometres of Livadia, 16 kilometres of Antikyra, 30 kilometres of Amfissa, 18 kilometres of Itea and 30 roughly kilometres of Delphi and Arachova as well. The graphic Desfina is a beautiful region with stone closely, wide, green, good food, exceptional wine and abundantly traditional products. The sunset in Gulf of Corinth from Desfina has an improbable view.

Desfina was lived by the antiquity called Echedamia. One of the most important rebels on 1821, Bishop Salwnwn Isaias, fought for the release of his homeland up to that was killed by Turks on 22 April 1821. Was the unique despot which was killed fighting in the field of battle for the release of his homeland. Salwnwn Isaias was one from those that encouraged Athanasios Diakos for the battle of Alamanas. Also, Isaias gave the signal for the beginning of revolution of Central Greece in Peloponnese at the Greek Revolution on 1821 from the region of Prophet Daniel. His residence is found in Desfina and has been changed in museum as well as the residence of painter Spyros Papaloykas, one of the bigger modern artists of Greece. In Desfina there is the eminent Monastery of Honest Precursor which was distinguished at the revolution on 1821 as well as the very important Byzantine monument, the temple of Brigadiers near to the church of Saint Haralampou that is dated by the 12th century.

Economy of Desfina is based in Aluminium of Greece (Prefecture Viotia), in the public services (Desfina - Itea - Amfissa), in the various cultures and more generally in the Rural sector. The Christmas and the Easter are celebrated with particular way mainly in villages and small town. This custom unfortunately has begun and eliminated in the urban centres of Greece because most persons prefer to celebrate in the province, near relatives and friends. Desfina is a town where the customs, the traditions and the feasts keep still to a large extent. The bigger in line events that become in Desfina are the month of August. There is not intense interest of tourism in Desfina but lot of ancient historical monuments of Greece are found in Delphi. The distance between Desfinas - Delphi is 30 km and thus a small part of tourism visits the region. Also, there is old street that connects Desfina with the Delphi in distance of less 20 km but this street not manufactured because creates intense skirmishes as long as report the Delfic landscape. The manufacture of this street would be a big step for the growth and promotion of Desfina.

[edit] Pan-Hellenic Championship Scramble

With big success was organised on 16 May, the Pan-Hellenic Championship Scramble 2004 in Desfina. The event organised in the region of Desfina called "Limnos" with absolute success. The floor of length of 3 kilometres offers fighting emotions so much in the competents what in a lot of spectators that watched.

The competents that reached of 93 people and separated in four categories:

  • Category A1 (125 & 200 cm²)
  • Category A2 (250 & 300 cm²)
  • Category B3 (250 & 350 cm²)
  • Category B4 (400,.426,.450,.470,.510,.525 & 610 cm²)

Afterwards the end of event followed the handing-over of rewards in the victors of each category and general classification in the square of Desfina.

The Cultural Association of Desfinas called The Progress was founded on 6 July 1979 and today is composed from 200 members. The aim of the cultural association is the intellectual growth and moral culture, the promotion of spirit of culture and humanitarian bond between the members as well as contribution in the configuration of environment. The materialisation of this aim the Cultural Association sought achieved.

[edit] Athletic Group "Hsaias Desfina"

The historical athletic team of Desfina called "Hsaias" was founded in 1973 and is representative the Municipality of Desfina in the space of Fthiotidofokidas in the old days and Fokikoy of later championship. From 1973 up to 1985 participated in the Championship Fthiotidofokidas where conquered 2 championships. One in 1976 going up from the C in the B category and other in 1978 when it took the ticket of rise from the B in the A category. From 1985 and since then it participates in the championship of E.P.S. Fokida. In 1986 gained the cup of Fokidas and nominated Champion A of Category, while lost the same year the rise in the D' National in baraz. A rise that it gained festive final in 1991 when conquered also again the championship, one year where the association spending enough money brought many "foreigner" footballers. The next year that fought in the D' National it accomplished it reaches in final the Bowl failing however this time it raises for second time in his history the Bowl. This moment the team is in A amateur category with main opponents Asteras Iteas and Fokikos Amfissas.

Doksa Desfinas was founded in 1986 and is the "small team of" Desfinas. The course of Doksa Desfinas in the amateur championship has yielded 2 championships in period 1998-2003 and interval 2003-2004 gave dynamic present in the A category.
