DeSoto West Middle School (DeSoto, Texas)

DeSoto West Middle School (formerly DeSoto West Junior High School) is a public school in DeSoto, Texas (USA). It is part of the DeSoto Independent School District and is located at 800 North Westmoreland Road.
DeSoto West opened in 1987 as the district's second junior high school. From 1987 to 2007, DeSoto West Junior High served grades seven and eight. As part of a district-wide grade realignment plan that goes into effect at the beginning of the 2007-2008 school year, DeSoto West will become a middle school that serves students grades six, seven, and eight.

As of the 2005-2006 school year, DeSoto West had a total of 827 students (77.4% African American, 8.9% White, 12.6% Hispanic, 0.8% Asian, and 0.2% Native American).

Based on the accountability ratings released by the Texas Education Agency on August 1, 2006, DeSoto West is currently rated "Academically Acceptable".

Most of the students from Northside and Ruby Young elementary schools attend DeSoto West Middle School as well as a substantial number of students from Cockrell Hill Elementary. A small number of students from Frank D. Moates Elementary also attend DeSoto West.[1]

In the 2005-2006 school year, DeSoto ISD began a mandatory school uniform policy at all of its schools.
