DeSoto East Middle School (DeSoto, Texas)

DeSoto East Middle School (formerly DeSoto East Junior High School) is a public school in DeSoto, Texas (USA). It is part of the DeSoto Independent School District and is located at 601 East Belt Line Road.

The campus now known as DeSoto East Middle opened in 1962. It served as the district's high school from 1962 until 1976, when the high school moved to its current location at 600 Eagle Drive. That year, the campus became DeSoto Junior High School, serving grades seven and eight. When DeSoto West Junior High School opened in 1987, the campus was renamed DeSoto East.

As part of a district-wide grade realignment plan that goes into effect at the beginning of the 2007-2008 school year, DeSoto East will become a middle school that serves students grades six, seven, and eight.

As of the 2005-2006 school year, DeSoto East had a total of 637 students (80.4% African American, 12.2% Hispanic, and 7.4% White).

Based on the accountability ratings released by the Texas Education Agency on August 1, 2006, DeSoto East is currently rated "Academically Acceptable".

All students from The Meadows Elementary School attend DeSoto East Middle School as well as a substantial number of students from Amber Terrace and Woodridge. A small number of students from Northside also attend DeSoto East.[1]

In the 2005-2006 school year, DeSoto ISD began a mandatory school uniform policy at all of its schools.
