Hello Deryck. Where did you actually take this picture? Can you point out the location on Centamap or Google Maps or anything similar? I'm suspecting it's actually Quarry Bay. :-D — Instantnood 20:30, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Old Skool Esperanzial note
Since this isn't the result of an AC meeting, I have decided to go Old Skool. This note is to remind you that the elections are taking place now and will end at 23:50 UTC on 2006-04-29. Please vote here. Thanks. --Celestianpower háblame 20:42, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] U Magazine and SCMP interview
Hey Deryck, a reporter from U Magazine has contacted me to find her some active Hong Kong wikipedians for an interview this week. Are you interested? The date and time has yet to be determined but I wonder when you'll free this week. (Is Saturday afternoon okay for you?) --Lorenzarius 15:24, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

- I see. What about Sunday? Or what day and time would be convenient for you? --Lorenzarius 15:42, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
Another writer from the South China Morning Post wants to have an interview with HK wikipedians on Saturday. Even though you aren't available, could you recommend some other active en: HK wikipedians for the interview? Thanks a ton :) --Lorenzarius 09:10, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

Thank you. And I'm sorry I got Samsara riled; I admit I started out on the wrong foot with the guilt-trip approach. That being said, I wish you both, as well as the rest of the SCOTW people, the best of luck in your endevours. -Litefantastic 02:19, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Your RfA on zh-yue WP
Congrats, your RfA on Cantonese Wiki passed! But why is the text about your RfA still on top of your user page? :-)
P.S. I'll be trying to spend time in my holidays in June learning how to use Cantonese IME input if time permits. Until then I can't contribute to Cantonese Wikipedia. Kimchi.sg 11:11, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Esperanza elections
Thanks for running in the Esperanza elections! Although you didn't get a place in the AC (results), it's the thought that counts. If you decide to run for AC elections again in future, I will still support you. ^_^ Kimchi.sg 03:27, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] article of HKCEE
I made some major edits on the article about HKCEE, in light of recent scandals. What do you think about that? [edit] Admin coaching
You are signed up for the admin coaching program, and as it's been a while since that time (long backlog), I just wanted to check- do you still want to be coached? Petros471 09:43, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
- I've added you to the 'Unassigned' list. I'll let you know when another coach becomes free (we have one at the free at the moment, but we usually assign two). It's not too much of a problem if you're not a heavy editor, but it is good to show regular contributions to show you're still around, especially after your exams are over. Petros471 08:08, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
- OK :) Petros471 17:53, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
-
- You've been assigned Kimchi.sg and EWS23 as your coaches. I suggest you head over to their talk pages and say hi, and work out how you are going to carry out the coaching (for example in a user subpage, or on IRC). Let me know if you have any questions about the process. Cheers, Petros471 13:33, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

- Hi Deryck! I must admit this is my first time being a coach in the admin coaching program. While I have a few ideas, I feel it's important to know what you want to know, because that is the most important part. First things first, where shall we carry out the coaching? I am available on IRC, but I'm not sure if Kimchi.sg is. If you would like the coaching carried out here on the Wiki, we should probably create User talk:Deryck Chan/Admin coaching so there can be a centralized place for discussion and coaching, as opposed to having everything split among three different talk pages. Thanks, and let me know what you think. EWS23 (Leave me a message!) 20:14, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

- Hello, I'm glad to have you as a coachee! You're my second coachee for admin coaching. I'm seldom around on IRC, but if you wish your coaching to be done there, I've no objections and will try to make myself present on IRC as well. Anticipating your reply, Kimchi.sg 17:59, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A short Esperanzial update
As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.
As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.
Thanks and kind, Esperanzial regards, —Celestianpower háblame 16:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Sorry to see you have to go
Deryck,
It's been a pleasure getting to know you through the admin coaching program. It's a shame we couldn't do more work together. I hope you will eventually feel better and be able to return to Wikipedia. Best of luck to you in all your endeavors,
EWS23 (Leave me a message!) 00:13, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
Hello Deryck, it's sad to see you in conflict and not in the best of health, and you are an asset to Wikipedia. However, in my opinion, eyesight is the greatest gift that a human being can have, so I think that preserving your eye health is the most important. Of course, I hope you make a full recovery and rejoin us here. Best wishes, Blnguyen | rant-line 01:23, 17 July 2006 (UTC).
Hi Deryck. I do not know you, I have never talked to you, but I feel obliged to say that I am sorry that you are leaving. To make matters better, I suggest that you think of this as an extended wiki-break. Hopefully, you will be back in a while. And we will be waiting for you. Goodbye and good luck.--Chile14 03:58, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Stress
Sorry to hear that you're stressed out, Deryck. I can only imagine how annoying all that autoblocking must be. Maybe someday they will figure out how to fix it... until then, good luck! -- Natalya 11:23, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Please unblock
--unblock-auto|1=210.87.251.107--
Just a comment - does wiki has some prejudice over Hongkongers that it has to autoblock all HK ppl? --Deryck C. 09:10, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Deryck. I've looked at the block, and it has been imposed on the given IP address because it is a zombie or open proxy. Zombie and open proxy connections - which are hosted on your computer, or in very bad circumstances by an ISP in error - are not allowed on Wikipedia. If you're operating one knowingly, you'll have to drop it to edit. If this comes as a shock to you, then I'll post an unblock request for the IP at WP:OP. Hope this helps. ➨ ЯEDVERS 15:36, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] La Salle College
Your comments imply a somehow superior knowledge of the purpose and rightful contents of Wikipedia. Frankly, I consider that a false conceit. (A moment's consideration will elicit the truth that any article could be infinitely long, given sufficiently precise detail.) I look forward both to editing future contributions by you, and being edited by you, to ensure the best possible collected judgement. Sliggy 13:21, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
- In reply to your edit on my talk page: I take your point, but Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. My edits were an attempt to summarise and precis what I read to be a rambling and repetitious collection of detail. I stand by that opinion - but in the greater scheme of things it's not vital. I'd be fibbing if I said I reallty grok what the article is about, but it was good to see a nice, estoeric chemistry article there giving DYK some variety! It's usually mostly history. ◄HouseOfScandal► 09:47, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Millennium City, Hong Kong
I thought Millennium City, Hong Kong had real DYK potential but could see it had some problems too. I cleaned up the grammar and added citations and a few more facts so it would be appropriate. I think we should strive to have at least one DYK per group concern Asia, Africa or South America rather than Europe and the USA. Technically, the Haghpat Monastery is in Asia, but its Near East rather than Far East. ◄HouseOfScandal► 10:26, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
