Derek Humphry is a British-born journalist(Sunday Times etc) and author of 14 books, the best known two are Jean's Way (l978) about the hastened death of his dying wife, and "Final Exit" an American number one bestseller in l991. This book is a unique guide on how to escape from the suffering of a terminal illness.
Humphry founded in l980 The Hemlock Society USA when living in Santa Monia, and ran it for its first 12 years,retiring to return to writing and lecturing.
He is currently president of the Euthanasia Research & Guidance Organization (ERGO) and an advisor to the Final Exit Network and the World Federation of Right to Die Societies.
"Final Exit" remains in print in 2008 (Delta Trade Paperback) ISBN 0385336535. Revised and updated 3rd edition. In 2005 it was again printed in Italian and Spanish.
