From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Derrinstown Stud 1,000 Guineas Trial is a Group 3 flat horse race in the Republic of Ireland for three-year-old thoroughbred fillies. It is run over a distance of 1 mile (1,609 metres) at Leopardstown Racecourse in May.
It is a trial race for the Irish 1,000 Guineas, and although no recent winners have subsequently won the latter event, Strawberry Roan, Kitza and Alexander Goldrun all went on to finish runner-up.
It was promoted to Group 3 status in 2002 having been previously classed as a Listed race. A similar race, the Leopardstown 1,000 Guineas Trial, takes place at Leopardstown in April.
