Derek Wathan

Derek Wathan (born December 13, 1976 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa) is a minor league baseball player in the Detroit Tigers organization. He is the son of former MLB player and manager John Wathan. Wathan attended the University of Oklahoma for college, and was selected by the Florida Marlins in the second round of the 1998 MLB draft. He played for the Triple-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals, the Omaha Royals, in 2007. Wathan signed a minor league contract with the Detroit Tigers for the 2008 season.
