Derek Temple

Derek Temple was an English football player born 13th November 1938 in Liverpool.

Derek made his debut for Everton at centre-forward in spring 1957. He moved to inside forward later that year and linked up well with Dave Hickson. He played for Everton in the seasons running from 1957 - 1967.

During the reign of Harry Catterick in 1961, Derek was moved to the left wing. During his first season in his new position he scored 10 goals in 17 games. Despite his great form, he missed out on a league winner's meda the very next season due to being sidelined by a cartilage operation.

In 1966 Derek played the whole 90 minutes of the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium scoring the late winner in Evertons 3-2 win over Sheffield Wednesday F.C.. This earned him a call up to the England squad by Alf Ramsey in 1965 where he won his only cap playing in a 1:0 win against West Germany.

Derek was transferred from Everton in 1967 to Preston North End for £35,000. He made 76 appearances for Preston, scoring 14 goals.

He joined Wigan Athletic for a £4,000 fee in the summer of 1970.

In his Everton career he made 272 appearances and only one substitute appearance scoring 82 goals (72 League, 8 FA Cup and 2 in Europe).
