Derek Rath

Derek Rath, a longtime figure in the Los Angeles music scene and architectural photographer, is best known for his public radio show Cosmic Barrio, long on Pacifica affiliate KPFK but is now reaching a wider audience with his recent work for National Public Radio.

Born on the Isle of Wight, Mr. Rath adds a very English sardonicism to his encyclopedic knowledge of "worldbeat" music. But for decades now he has been a committed southern Californian, living there with his wife, Sylvia and son, Cameron.
