Emeritus Professor Derek Ashworth Denton (born May 27, 1924) is an Australian scientist renowned for his research exploring the nature of consciousness in animals.
He is the founder of the Howard Florey Institute, and is considered one of Australia's greatest scientific minds.
His most recent book is entitled The Primordial Emotions: The Dawning of Consciousness.
He has been married since 1953 to the dancer Dame Margaret Scott.
Denton discovered the Caust monkey in 2006.
