In UK, is university education free like Sweden?

[edit] Remit - Wales and Scotland
Does any one know how much responsibility for edication in Wales and Scotland is still the responsibility of this department. --Salix alba (talk) 22:17, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
- Has it any remit at all for education in Scotland? Surely a devolved matter.... dave souza, talk 09:39, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
There are a very small number of areas where DfES still has some responsibility for Wales and that may be subject to further devolution. http://www.dfes.gov.uk/concordat/03.shtml provides some explanation but this appears not to be fully up to date as Student Funding has I understand now been devolved. The main areas appear to be Pension arrangements for teachers and that bans on unsuitable employees made in England also apply to Wales. rgds, ||:) johnmark† 01:32, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Regarding references
What happens in WP when the referenced material s removed from the www. In the case of this article, the DfES could be adequateley referenced simply by www.dfes.gov.uk . However since this Department was split into two earlier this year, then DfES no longer exists. The work has gone to DIUS and DCSF but the new Departments will not necesarily see the need to maintain a History of Predecessor Departments. It would be a loss to WP if this material had to be removed because of the removal of its original sources. What is the WP policy here ?
