[edit] Album information

It has been described by McCartney as a complete change in musical style, compared to his previous releases. He was quoted saying about the new album, "I'm going for Prince chord changes, Michael (Jackson) melodies, and the bigness of Madonna - fun '80s stuff. That's the best that I can put it".[1] Producers on the album include Tricky Stewart, The-Dream, Sean Garrett, The Clutch and J.R. Rotem.

His version of Leona Lewis's "Bleeding Love" (which he co-wrote) will be a bonus track on the Australian release and the Asian edition. This version was produced by The Clutch.

The album leaked April 30, 2008, almost 3 weeks before the release date. "Departure" was released one week early on the Canadian iTunes.

The packaging for the album was made with 100% recycled material, using vegetable based inks. The CD will be released using CDVU+ technology.

[edit] Reviews

PopJustice.com reviewed the album, and said "Departure repositions McCartney alongside Justin Timberlake and Chris Brown and stands as an exciting, brilliantly produced landmark on the post-'Maneater' pop landscape. While referring to "My Baby", one of the album's tracks, they went on to say "if Michael Jackson was recording 'Off the Wall' in 2008 it would probably sound a bit like this."[2] Chris A Sosa of Musicouch states that "while Jesse's Departure is hardly brilliant, it marks a step in the right direction for McCartney".[3]

Rolling Stone have commented on the songs and are speculating that the song "How Do You Sleep?" may be the second single choice.[4] However, the track "It's Over" is the most popular tune from "Departure" on iTunes, second only to the current single. It has reached #12 on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart, #91 on the Billboard Pop 100, and #77 on the Billboard Hot Digital Songs chart, due to its number of downloads.
