Department of Technical and Adult Education

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Department of Technical and Adult Education (DTAE) is the body which supervises the U.S. state of Georgia's 33 technical colleges and four technical divisions in University System of Georgia (USG) institutions, while also surveying the adult literacy program and economic and workforce development programs. The department operates the Georgia Virtual Technical College, a clearinghouse for online technical courses. The Department of Technical and Adult Education serves the people and the state by creating a system of technical education whose purpose is to use the latest technology and easy access for all adult Georgians and corporate citizens.

The DTAE and USG are completely separate agencies and work entirely independently of each other, except for certain cooperative efforts. Core courses are generally transferrable between the two, though this was made more difficult when the USG forced its students to semesters in 1997, while DTAE remained on the more student-oriented quarter system.
