The Department of State Development and Trade is the former name of the "Department of Tourism, Regional Development and Industry". It was created to encourage investments and state-wide growth, and was one of the factors that lead to the creation of the 'Smart State' slogan used by Peter Beattie's labour government. Some of its key projects include small business development, online services, and large-scale investment from high-tech businesses such as Boeing.
The department's current Minister is the Honourable Desley Boyle MP[1]. The current Director-General (also known as the chief executive) is Robert (Bob) McCarthy[2].
