The Department of State Development, Trade and Innovation (now known as the Department of State Development and Trade)[1] is a department of the Government of Queensland. It was created to encourage investments and state-wide growth, and was one of the factors that lead to the creation of the 'Smart State' slogan used by Peter Beattie's labor government. Some of its key projects include small business development, online services, and large-scale investment from high-tech businesses such as Boeing.
The department's current Ministers are the Honourable John Mickel MP[2] (Minister for State Development, Employment and Industrial Relations) and the Honourable Peter Beattie MP (Premier and Minister for Trade).[3] The current Director-General (also known as the chief executive) is Robert (Bob) McCarthy[4].
