Department of Applied Mathematics and Cybernetics Tomsk State University of was founded in 1970. The dean of the department is A. M. Gorcev.
The main aim of the department's curriculum is the training of specialists who can:
- build mathematical models of real objects and processes
- find possible solution which involve using a computer
In order to develop these skills students study the following courses:
- Mathematics (mathematical analysis, algebra, differential equations, probability theory, discrete mathematics, functional analysis)
- Computer science (operating systems, programming methods, programming languages, data bases)
- Physics, systems analysis
At the present time the department has the following specialities:
- Applied Mathematics and Computer Science
- Mathematical Methods in Economics
- Computer Security
